Fungal tonsillitis (tonsillomycosis) is an inflammatory process in the tonsils of the pharyngeal ring caused by a fungus from the genus Candida. The cause of the development of the disease is yeast from the genus Candida. They are part of the normal microflora of the mouth in most healthy people without causing any unpleasant symptoms.
With fungal sore throat, the mucous membrane of the tonsils and tongue is affected
Under normal conditions, fungi practically do not manifest themselves and belong to the group of conditionally pathogenic microorganisms. The treatment of fungal sore throat differs significantly from the treatment of other types of the disease, since the causative agent of the pathology is not bacteria and viruses, but fungi.
The cause of the development of tonsillomycosis is a fungus of the genus Candida.
If the immune system malfunctions, the oral fungus begins to multiply actively, causing unpleasant symptoms. The following factors influence the development of infection:
- malnutrition, in which an insufficient amount of vitamins and minerals enters the human body;
- long-term use of antibiotics;
- diabetes;
- metabolic disease;
- burns and injuries of the oral mucosa;
- hormonal disorders;
- alcohol abuse or smoking;
- oncological diseases;
- chronic inflammatory processes in the nasopharynx.
A newborn baby can become infected when passing through the birth canal of the mother if she has an acute form of candidiasis.
Symptoms of fungal sore throat
At the initial stage, the patient experiences discomfort and a sore throat, as well as minor pain. A white-yellow coating appears on the mucous membrane of the tonsils, on the tongue and palate, in some cases resembling cottage cheese.
Bad breath appears, bleeding sores are found under the bloom. The perception of taste is impaired.
Also, a patient with tonsillomycosis may experience general symptoms of the disease: fever, headache, weakness. Sometimes there is an increase in regional lymph nodes.
The main characteristic feature of the disease is a white-yellow coating on the tonsils, tongue and palate.
Infants during the period of illness become capricious, restless, sleep poorly and may refuse to eat. What a throat looks like with a disease can be seen in the photo.
How to treat fungal sore throat
An otolaryngologist can diagnose the disease after a visual examination. In order to determine the genus of fungi that caused the inflammatory process, a swab is taken from the mucous membrane of the tonsils. If the disease is difficult, a blood test is done.
Unlike other forms of tonsillitis, antibiotics are not used to treat fungal sore throat because they do not affect the fungus. Uncontrolled intake of such funds can cause the progression of the disease.
In the treatment of the disease, antifungal drugs such as Nystatin or Fluconazole are used. The dosage and treatment regimen is prescribed by the doctor after an in-person consultation, it depends on the patient's age and the localization of the process.
For rinsing, an infusion of oak bark can be used
In the complex treatment of the disease, rinses are used:
- Furacilin solution: 1 Furacilin tablet is dissolved in 100 ml of boiling water. Gargle with such a remedy 3-4 times a day;
- soda solution: a teaspoon of soda is dissolved in 200 ml of warm water. The procedure is carried out every 3-4 hours until symptoms are relieved;
- infusion of oak bark: one teaspoon of oak bark is brewed with a glass of boiling water. After the product has cooled to a comfortable temperature, filter the solution. This procedure can be carried out up to 5 times a day;
- infusion of chamomile flowers, eucalyptus leaves and oak bark: plant raw materials are mixed in the same amount and poured with boiling water, after the product is infused, filtered. Apply the infusion 3-4 times a day.
Throat antiseptics (Hexoral, Miramistin) can be used to relieve symptoms. Both aerosols and lozenges can be used.
Since the state of the immune system plays an important role in the development of the disease, immunostimulants are prescribed. In addition to treatment, vitamin complexes are used.
In order to cope with tonsillomycosis, you can use a chatterbox: in 1 ml of vitamin B 12 add a 250 mg tablet of Nystatin crushed into powder and mix until dissolved. With a cotton swab, the agent is applied to the affected areas 2-3 times a day. Treatment is continued until the symptoms of the disease disappear.
It is important to start the treatment of fungal sore throat in adults and children with dietary restrictions, since many foods contribute to the development of the fungus. Exclude from the diet:
- confectionery;
- juicy fruits;
- candy;
- bananas;
- legumes;
- hard cheeses;
- dried fruits;
- nuts;
- marinades;
- smoked meats;
- soy sauce;
- alcohol.
The presence of ulcers leads to pain when food is swallowed. To reduce pain, it is recommended to eat soups, mashed potatoes, liquid cereals. Food should be kept at room temperature so as not to irritate the mucous membrane. Salty, spicy and sour foods are excluded from the diet.
Until the symptoms of the disease are eliminated, it is recommended to eat grated food - soups, mashed potatoes
To eliminate intoxication, it is imperative to observe the drinking regime. An adult needs to drink at least two liters of fluid per day. It can be tea, a decoction of dried fruit, compote, still water.
If the state of health worsens, bed rest is indicated. During the period of illness, it is necessary to reduce physical and emotional stress.
Prognosis and complications
With proper and timely treatment of the disease, you can completely get rid of within 7-10 days. The consequences are rare, mainly in patients with impaired immune system function. In this case, the fungus can infect the gastrointestinal tract. Also, a complication of fungal tonsillitis can be otitis media or cervical lymphadenitis.
Prevention of the disease
In order to prevent the development of fungal sore throat in children and adults, you must:
- maintain immunity, eat right, play sports and regularly walk in the fresh air;
- to refuse from bad habits;
- treat chronic diseases on time;
- observe the rules of personal hygiene.
To prevent the disease, it is necessary to lead an active lifestyle and play sports
If there is a small child in the house, you need to keep clean, regularly wash toys that the baby takes in his mouth. In order to prevent infection of newborns, before giving birth to pregnant women, the birth canal is sanitized.
If there are signs of tonsillomycosis, you should consult an otolaryngologist.
