Stuttering in children is not so much a medical problem as a psychological one, it leaves an imprint on the formation of a child's character, and of course, with regard to stuttering, it is completely legitimate to say that the disease is easier to prevent than to cure. Experts divide the factors influencing the formation of this ailment into two parts: predisposing, which are the background, fertile soil, and the immediate reason - a factor that, being in itself, usually does not lead to stuttering, but imposed on the soil formed by predisposing factors, becomes the impetus that leads to a breakdown.

Less commonly talked about medical causes of stuttering in children. This is a brain injury or a previous illness that has affected the brain structures. Trauma can be domestic or generic, most often associated with asphyxia. Diseases that affect the formation of stuttering in children include infectious diseases (measles, influenza, whooping cough, helminthiases), metabolic disorders (diseases of the endocrine system), as well as diseases that directly affect the organs involved in the formation of speech (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, etc. etc.).

In the formation of stuttering in children, a hereditary predisposition also plays a role. This does not necessarily mean the presence of stuttering in relatives, rather the lability of the nervous system, increased anxiety, reduced stress resistance, as well as hereditary weakness of the organs of the speech apparatus. However, this can rather be viewed as a background favorable to pathology, but not necessarily leading to it.

If we talk about the most frequent direct cause of stuttering in children, then in the vast majority of cases of acquired stuttering it is a mental trauma. The stress or shock experienced by the child leads to a malfunction in the part of the nervous system that controls speech. Adults need to remember that the child's psyche is extremely vulnerable, and although the child cannot always express his feelings, he experiences them very deeply. It is necessary to try to protect the child from strong experiences, not to allow him to witness difficult scenes, quarrels, tragic events, and if it does happen, it is advisable to seek the help of a psychologist right away, without waiting for severe consequences from the body and psyche.

Sometimes stuttering in children is explained by imitation. If a loved one or someone from the constant environment of the baby stutters, for example, in a kindergarten, the child may start to stutter, and he does not always do it consciously. This situation also requires correction, because in this case stuttering is not a pathology, but a bad habit, but it can gain a foothold, and then it will be much more difficult to eliminate it.
