Trichology
Trichology is a narrowly focused section of dermatology, which deals with the study of the structure and growth of hair, their diseases and treatment. Trichology is a very young science and is at a stage of development, therefore, for domestic medicine, the specialty of a trichologist, as well as trichology clinics, are quite exotic.
The main function of hair is to protect other organs from the effects of various infections and the penetration of foreign bodies. On the human body, hair is found almost everywhere, with the exception of some areas (heels, palms, lips). In addition, hair retains heat, protecting our body from damage.
The science of trichology pays attention to factors such as hair length and thickness, absence or presence of healthy shine, hair color. So, for example, thick, shiny, beautiful hair without signs of brittleness and dandruff indicates an excellent state of human health. And brittle and dull hair, hair loss and baldness speak of possible psychological and physical health problems.
Trichology history
In the west, trichology emerged as a separate scientific trend in the middle of the 20th century. Today there is the International Association of Trichologists, the European Society for Hair Research and various national associations of trichologists. According to reviews, the most significant contributions to the development of trichology were made by the Spanish, German, Italian and British dermatological schools. In the West, practical trichology is given a lot of attention. There, within the framework of aesthetic medicine, young specialists are trained as trichologists and trichotherapists.
In Russia, trichology appeared in the early 90s of the 20th century, but the first specialists in this field - only a few years ago. According to the classifier of professions of the Ministry of Health, in Russia there is no such profession as a trichologist today.
Trichology - causes of hair diseases
Hair is not an independent organ, but an appendage of the skin. Therefore, first of all, the health of the hair depends on the condition of the skin. All processes occurring in the human body are closely interconnected. Even the smallest malfunction of the immune or hormonal system, constant stress and nervous breakdowns, psychological problems, disruption of the gastrointestinal tract and other organs and systems will not slow down to affect the condition of the skin, and, consequently, the condition of human hair.
The main problem with which people come to the clinics of trichology is alopecia (baldness). According to statistics, about 75% of the world's population have hair problems. Hair diseases also include dandruff, weakening and thinning of hair, seborrhea, brittle and split ends.
Trichology pays special attention to the hereditary factor in the treatment of hair diseases. It has already been proven that heredity directly affects the development of a certain pathology. Based on this, the trichologist selects the appropriate treatment for the patient.
Trichology - diagnosis and treatment of hair diseases
In the clinics of trichology today, the most modern methods of hair treatment are used. To make the correct diagnosis, specialists have at their disposal classical methods of laboratory research (microelemental and biochemical analysis of hair composition). Methods of micro-video diagnostics are also widely used, which allow doctors to determine the disease and its cause as accurately as possible.
According to reviews, the science of trichology has achieved the maximum results in the treatment of hair diseases thanks to the use of modern pharmacological agents and physiotherapeutic procedures. Along with advanced methods of treatment, proven folk remedies are also widely used, because centuries of experience in combating hair problems have made it possible to collect an impressive arsenal of existing means and methods.
In most cases, hair diseases are only symptoms of diseases of an organ or system. On the basis of diagnostic studies, a trichologist may advise a patient to consult a specialist of a certain profile: an immunologist, a dermatologist, a gastroenterologist, etc. In addition, in such cases, the patient will not be prevented from undergoing a comprehensive examination of the body in order to identify the underlying disease that provoked the deterioration of the hair condition.
According to reviews, trichology provides a real opportunity to resist various pathologies and manifestations of hair fatigue, which lead to hair loss or baldness.
