Epigen intim is an antiviral immunostimulating agent for external and local use.
Release form and composition
The drug is produced in the form of a spray for local and external use: from a pale yellow to pale brown color, a liquid with a characteristic odor (15 or 60 ml in a plastic bottle with a spray, each bottle is packed in a PVC film; in a cardboard box, instructions for application of Epigen intim and 1 balloon complete with a spray nozzle for intravaginal use; a free sample - 15 ml each in a plastic bottle with a spray, 1 balloon with a nozzle for intravaginal use in a cardboard box).
100 ml of spray contains:
- active substance: activated glycyrrhizic acid (equivalent to ammonium glycyrrhizinate) - 0.1 g;
- additional components: ascorbic acid, malic acid, folic acid, fumaric acid, tween 80 (polysorbate 80), purified water, propylene glycol.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Activated glycyrrhizic acid is produced from licorice root through extraction. Providing a complex effect, the drug demonstrates an immunostimulating, anti-inflammatory local, antiviral, antipruritic and regenerating effect.
The active substance induces the production of its own interferons. An immunostimulating effect is manifested by an increase in the number and activity of T-lymphocytes, a decrease in the level of immunoglobulin G (IgG), and an increase in immunoglobulin A (IgA) and immunoglobulin M (IgM). The active ingredient has antiviral activity against DNA and RNA of various types of viruses in vivo and in vitro, including Varicella Zoster, cytomegalovirus (CMV), herpes simplex virus of the first (HSV-1) and second (HSV-2) type, various types of virus human papillomas, including oncogenic.
Activated glycyrrhizic acid stops the viral replication process in the early stages, leads to the release of the virion from the capsid, thereby blocking its penetration into the cell. It inactivates these viruses when used in a dose that is not toxic to normally functioning cells. Mutant viral strains that are resistant to iodouridine and acyclovir exhibit high sensitivity to glycyrrhizic acid, as well as non-mutant ones.
The stimulating effect of Epigen intima on humoral and cellular factors of immunity is combined with its anti-inflammatory activity. The drug significantly slows down the release of kinins and the production of prostaglandins by connective tissue cells in the area of inflammation. The regenerating effect is due to the improvement of reparative processes in the skin and mucous membranes.
Pharmacokinetics
In the case of external and local application, glycyrrhizic acid accumulates in the lesions. Systemic absorption is slow, it is detected in the blood in trace amounts.
Indications for use
- infection caused by the human papillomavirus, including the isolation of this virus with a high oncogenic risk in the asymptomatic course of the disease (treatment as part of complex and combination therapy);
- HSV-1 and HSV-2 infection (treatment as part of complex therapy);
- infection caused by the Varicella Zoster virus (shingles) (treatment as part of complex therapy);
- CMV infections (as part of complex therapy);
- genital warts and pathologies of the cervix, excited by the human papillomavirus, CMV (prevention and treatment);
- infections caused by HSV-1 and HSV-2, Varicella Zoster virus, CMV, human papillomavirus (prevention of relapse);
- vulvovaginal candidiasis, nonspecific vulvovaginitis, bacterial vaginosis - conditions accompanied by a decrease in local immunity (prevention and treatment as part of complex therapy);
- discomfort in the genital area, accompanied by burning, itching and dryness of the mucous membranes, including after intercourse, as well as against the background of insufficient ovarian function.
Contraindications
The use of Epigen intima is contraindicated in the presence of hypersensitivity to any of its components.

- HSV-2 infection (genital herpes), CMV infections: externally and intravaginally 5 times / day, duration of use - 14 days; after stopping the relapse - externally and intravaginally 3 times / day, course - 10 days; in order to prevent relapses - externally and intravaginally 2 times / day, morning and evening; the course is carried out from 18-20 days of the menstrual cycle until the end of menstruation;
- papillomavirus infection: the period before removal of genital warts - 3 times / day throughout the entire stage of etiotropic treatment; period after destruction - 5 times / day for 10 days or more until complete healing; prevention of immediate relapses - 3 times / day, course - 30 days;
- progression of human papillomavirus infection (for prophylaxis): before and after intercourse, as well as when provoking factors such as fatigue, stress, microflora disturbances, respiratory viral infections, antibiotics / cytostatics are taken - intravaginally and externally 3 times / day throughout the period of exposure to these factors;
- nonspecific vulvovaginitis, vulvovaginal candidiasis, bacterial vaginosis: intravaginally 3-4 times / day, duration of treatment - 7-10 days; if necessary, repeat the course after 10 days; against the background of respiratory viral infections, taking antibiotics, cytostatics or the occurrence of other provoking factors - intravaginally and externally 3 times / day during the entire time of exposure to these factors;
