Citramon is a drug belonging to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

pharmachologic effect

Citramon contains several active ingredients (combined preparation). Therefore, its pharmacological action is determined by the mutual influence of each active component:

• Acetylsalicylic acid - has anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects, relieves pain caused by inflammation, to a certain extent reduces blood clotting and improves blood circulation in the focus of the inflammatory process;

• Caffeine - has an exciting effect on the central nervous system and its psychomotor centers, expands the lumen of blood vessels, reduces drowsiness, fatigue, has a slight analgesic effect, stimulates mental and physical activity;

• Paracetamol is a drug with analgesic, antipyretic and moderate anti-inflammatory properties.

Indications for use

According to the instructions, Citramon is indicated for the relief of moderate severity of pain syndromes caused by various reasons:

• Toothache;

• Headache;

• Myalgia;

• Arthralgia;

• Neuralgia.

The indications for Citramon are also feverish conditions and painful menstruation.

Method of using Citramon

Citramon is usually prescribed one tablet three times a day. In many cases, one dose of Citramon is enough to relieve pain.

Side effects

Citramon is also contraindicated for use in pediatric practice. It should not be given to children under 15 years of age because of the risk of developing Reye's syndrome. Also, Citramon is contraindicated during preparation for surgical interventions, because increases bleeding.

Citramon's use during pregnancy

Citramon is contraindicated in the first and third trimester of pregnancy. Acetylsalicylic acid, which is part of it, has a teratogenic effect, which can lead to the development of congenital fetal anomalies. Taking Citramon in the third trimester promotes premature closure of the aortic duct and increases the risk of bleeding during labor. In the second trimester, indications for Citramon should be carefully evaluated by a doctor. The drug can be used only in cases where the expected benefit from the treatment significantly outweighs the potential risk of impact on fetal development.

Interaction with other drugs

Citramon is able to enhance the effect of hypoglycemic and steroid drugs, indirect anticoagulants. When taken together with Methotrexate and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, the risk of side effects increases dramatically. According to the instructions, Citramon should not be prescribed simultaneously with antiepileptic drugs, Rifampicin and barbiturates, because in this case, the formation of hepatotoxic metabolites occurs in large quantities.
