Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Pancreasim is one of the polyenzyme drugs. Lipase, amylase and protease - pancreatic enzymes included in its composition, facilitate the digestion of fats, proteins, carbohydrates and, as a result, their complete absorption in the small intestine.

In patients with diseases of the pancreas, Pancreasim compensates for the insufficiency of its exocrine function, which improves the digestion process.

Pharmacokinetics

The tablet is covered with a protective shell, insoluble in the acidic contents of the stomach. Thanks to this, the enzymes are protected from destruction under the influence of the pH of the gastric juice.

Indications for use

  • conditions after simultaneous resection of the small intestine and stomach, intestinal disorders, functional acceleration of the passage of food through the intestines, the simultaneous use of heavily digestible plant, unusual and fatty foods;
  • diseases that are accompanied by a violation of the process of digestion of food associated with insufficient secretion of digestive enzymes by the pancreas, including chronic pancreatitis;
  • preparation for ultrasound / X-ray diagnostic tests, intestinal distention.

Contraindications

Absolute:

  • exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis, acute pancreatitis;
  • age up to 18 years;
  • individual intolerance to the components of the drug.

Relative (Pancreasim tablets are used under medical supervision):

  • pregnancy;
  • lactation period.

Pancreasim, instructions for use: method and dosage

Pancreasim is taken orally with meals. The tablets should be swallowed whole with a large amount of liquid, for example 200 ml of water.

The dosage regimen and the duration of the course is set individually and is determined by the deficiency of pancreatic enzymes in the duodenum.

In the absence of other recommendations, as well as when using heavily digestible plant foods, unusual or fatty foods, take 1-2 tablets. The recommended dose of Pancreasim in other cases with the development of digestive disorders is 2–4 tablets. According to indications, the dose can be increased. If the dose is increased in order to reduce the symptoms of the disease, for example, abdominal pain or steatorrhea, a doctor's consultation is necessary.

The maximum daily dose of lipase is 15,000–20,000 Ph. Eur. U. per 1 kg of body weight.

Side effects

  • immune system: immediate allergic reactions (in the form of skin rash, sneezing, lacrimation, bronchospasm); the development of allergic reactions may be associated with the presence of the dye carmoisin (E122) in the Pancreasim tablets;
  • genitourinary system: in patients with cystic fibrosis - increased excretion of uric acid with urine, especially while taking high doses of pancreatin; to avoid the formation of uric acid calculi in such patients, it is necessary to monitor its content in the urine;
  • digestive system: in patients with cystic fibrosis, when taking high doses - the formation of a narrowing in the ileocecal area and the ascending part of the colon abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, changes in the nature of bowel movements, vomiting; possibly constipation, bowel obstruction.
