Normax is an antibacterial agent from the group of fluoroquinolones.

Release form and composition

  • Film-coated tablets: capsule-shaped, almost white or white, on one side - risk (6 or 10 pcs. In strips of aluminum foil, 1 strip in a cardboard box);
  • Eye and ear drops 0.3%: transparent, colorless or slightly yellow solution free of any particles (5 ml each in dark glass bottles or polyethylene dropper bottles, in a cardboard box 1 glass bottle complete with a dropper cap or 1 dropper bottle).

The active substance is norfloxacin, its content:

  • 1 tablet - 400 mg;
  • 1 ml drops - 3 mg.

Additional components of the tablets: sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium starch glycolate, purified talc, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, colloidal silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose.

Excipients of drops: water for injection, sodium chloride, disodium edetate, glacial acetic acid, benzalkonium chloride.

Indications for use

In the form of tablets, Normax is prescribed for the treatment of the following infectious and inflammatory diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to norfloxacin:

  • Ophthalmic infections;
  • Skin and soft tissue infections;
  • Intestinal infections;
  • Infections of the middle ear, larynx, pharynx, paranasal sinuses;
  • Infections of the pelvic organs (including adnexitis and prostatitis);
  • Diseases of the urinary tract.

In the form of eye and ear drops, Normax is used to treat the following diseases of an infectious and inflammatory nature caused by microorganisms sensitive to norfloxacin:

  • Keratitis;
  • Blepharitis;
  • Conjunctivitis (including gonococcal);
  • Blepharoconjunctivitis;
  • Keratoconjunctivitis;
  • Internal otitis media;
  • Acute and chronic otitis media;
  • Otitis externa;
  • Infectious eustachitis;
  • Trachoma;
  • Corneal ulcer.

In addition, in drops, the drug is used to prevent:

  • Infections after removal of a foreign body from the conjunctiva or cornea, before and after surgery, after injury by physical or chemical means;
  • Infectious otitis media after removal of a foreign body from the external auditory canal (in case of damage to the ear tissue), with injuries, before and after surgery.

Contraindications

For both dosage forms:

  • Pregnancy and lactation period;
  • Hypersensitivity to any component of the drug or other drugs from the group of fluoroquinolones.

In pediatrics, Normax tablets are not prescribed for children under 15 years old, eye and ear drops - up to 18 years old.

In the form of tablets, the drug should be used with caution in patients with severe impaired renal and / or liver function, epilepsy or convulsive syndrome of another etiology.

Method of administration and dosage

Usually prescribed 1 tablet 2 times a day. In severe cases of an infectious disease, a single dose can be increased to 2 tablets.

The duration of therapy in each case is determined individually, but is at least 3 days.

Eye and ear

drops In the form of drops, Normax is intended for topical use.

Recommended doses:

  • Infectious eye diseases in the acute phase: at the beginning of treatment - 1-2 drops every 15-20 minutes with a gradual decrease in the frequency of instillations;
  • Infectious diseases of the eyes with a moderate course: 1-2 drops 2-6 times a day;
  • Acute and chronic trachoma: 2 drops in each eye 2-4 times a day for 1 month or more;
  • Ear diseases: 5 drops, 3 times a day.

In case of ear diseases, drops should be heated to body temperature before instillation. It is necessary to instill the drug in the previously cleaned external auditory canals. For the convenience of the procedure, it is recommended to lie on one side or tilt your head back to facilitate the process of instillation. After instillation for 2 minutes, the head must be held in the same position. If necessary, a cotton swab can be inserted into the ear. Treatment should be continued for another 48 hours after the symptoms of the disease disappear.

Side effects

  • Allergic reactions: rash, itching, Quincke's edema;
  • Digestive system: abdominal pain, heartburn, nausea, diarrhea, anorexia;
  • Central nervous system: increased fatigue, headache, sleep disorders, anxiety, irritability, vertigo;
  • Urinary system: interstitial nephritis.

With the simultaneous administration of antacids or preparations containing zinc, magnesium, sucralfate, calcium or iron, at least 2-hour intervals should be observed between doses of the drugs.

In the form of drops, Normax is intended for topical use only. To achieve the maximum effect in severe infections, the drug is recommended to be combined with systemic antimicrobial therapy.

When instilling, the dropper and solution should be protected from contamination.

Within 30 minutes after instillation of eye drops, you must refrain from driving a car and performing potentially dangerous types of work that require clarity of visual perception and increased attention.

Drug interactions

Possible drug interactions with the simultaneous use of Normax in tablet form simultaneously with other drugs:

  • Antacids and preparations containing zinc, magnesium, sucralfate, calcium or iron: absorption of norfloxacin decreases;
  • Cyclosporine: its concentration in the blood increases;
  • Warfarin: its anticoagulant effect increases.

Normax eye and ear drops are incompatible with drugs that have a physically or chemically unstable pH value of 3-4.
