Bedstraw is a herbaceous plant reaching 80cm in height with small leaves and flowers collected in inflorescences. The bedstraw grows in Asia, Europe. Other common names for the herb are madder, serum, yellow porridge.
In medicine, the aerial part of the plant is used, sometimes the roots. Grass is collected during its flowering, for which the plant is pruned at a distance of 15 cm from the ground, tied and dried in limbo, hiding from the sun.
Useful properties of bedstraw
Basically, the bedstraw is prized for its diuretic effect. Official medicine allowed the use of bedstraw, but as part of various herbal preparations, and not in pure form. Bedstraw herb is used more in folk medicine: with its help, puffiness caused by renal pathologies is removed. Also known is the anti-inflammatory, astringent, regenerating, hemostatic properties of the herb. It is considered a strong anticancer agent and is used to treat cancer of the tongue, breast, cervix, and skin. Helps the bedstraw to cure cervical erosion.
Application of bedstraw
Wet compresses with bedstraw decoction are applied to the skin affected by sunburn and to poorly healing wounds.
For gastritis, hemorrhoids, nosebleeds, heavy menstruation, diarrhea, endometritis, use an infusion of bedstraw herb or fresh plant juice.
The plant helps relieve pain with gout, cramps and colic in the stomach, intestines, eliminates bedstraw and headaches.
In epilepsy and childhood convulsions, the plant acts as an anticonvulsant.
With neurasthenia, hysteria, infusions and decoctions of herbs are used as a sedative.
Infusion of bedstraw is drunk for fever, pneumonia, sore throat, colds, coughs, tuberculosis, jaundice, liver diseases, rheumatism, scrofula, vomiting, nausea, thyroid diseases, incl. with nodes, cysts, hyperplasia, goiter.
Outwardly, a decoction or infusion can be used for conjunctivitis, and a decoction or juice for eczema. Bedstraw juice is also taken orally - it tones and strengthens.
With impotence, fresh juice is drunk two or three r / day, 2-3 tablespoons of tablespoons, mixing it with water.
To prepare the infusion, take two teaspoons of bedstraw herb, pour 250 ml of cold water, heat to a boil and boil for another two minutes, then chill and filter. You need to drink this infusion 2-3 cups daily.
With atherosclerosis, such a remedy helps: two tablespoons of dried herb teaspoons are poured with 250 ml of boiling water, insisted for two or three hours under a lid, filtered. Drink the product warm 3-4 r / day, 100 ml before meals.
For taking baths, lotions for skin diseases, ulcers and wounds, for pouring, 4 tablespoons of table herbs with flowers are brewed with two glasses of boiling water.
For the treatment of scrofula, boils, abscesses, an ointment is prepared from a bedstraw: 10 g of chopped dried flowers are ground in a mortar, 100 g of unsalted fresh butter is added.
You can also sprinkle the ulcers with powder from the flowers of the bedstraw, or apply 2-3 r / day a gruel of fresh flowers.
For douching and microclysters, such an infusion is prepared: one spoonful of table grass is infused for four hours in 500 ml of boiling water. Before the procedures, the infusion must be filtered.
With angina pectoris, such an infusion on the roots of the bedstraw helps: 20 g of crushed and dried roots are poured in 500 ml of boiling water, they insist for 6-8 hours, filter. Drink 100 ml tincture two or three r / day.
Contraindications
Due to the pronounced diuretic effect, bedstraw is prescribed with caution to patients with diabetes.
Due to its strong astringent effect, the use of bedstraw is prescribed at intervals of one or two weeks.
It is not recommended for children and pregnant women to take products made from bedstraw herb.
Since the plant is considered poisonous, the dosage prescribed by the doctor should be adhered to.
