Tardiferon is an antianemic agent.

Release form and composition

Dosage form - tablets, sugar-coated, prolonged action: biconvex, from white to light beige, with an even smooth surface (10 pcs. In blisters, 3 blisters in a cardboard box).

Active substance: iron sulfate x 1 1 / 2 H 2 O - 256,3 1 mg per tablet, which corresponds to 80 mg of iron.

Auxiliary components: magnesium trisilicate, potato starch, mucoproteose (anhydrous), magnesium stearate, talc, triethyl citrate, methacrylic acid and methacrylate copolymer (Eudragit S), hydrogenated castor oil, povidone, ascorbic acid.

Shell composition: rice starch, carnauba wax, titanium dioxide, sucrose, talc, methyl methacrylate, dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate and butyl methacrylate copolymer (Eudragit E).

Pharmacological properties

Tardiferon is a hematopoietic stimulant. Iron atoms are located in the central part of the hemoglobin molecule and are responsible for stimulating hematopoiesis. Hematopoietic disorders are eliminated by replenishing iron stores in the body through the intake of ferrous sulfate, which is the active component of the drug.

Ascorbic acid, also part of Tardiferon, increases the absorption of ferrous sulfate by about 4 times during its absorption in the digestive tract. Mucoproteosis improves the tolerance of the active substance of the drug.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

For tablets Tardiferon is characterized by a prolonged effect. Mucoprotein increases the bioavailability of ferrous ions, which ensures its gradual release in the small intestine. The maximum concentration of iron is found in the blood plasma approximately 7 hours after oral administration. The level of this substance is maintained at a consistently high level for 24 hours. Bioavailability is 5–35%.

The rate and extent of absorption of iron sulfate is directly determined by the presence of its own iron stores in the body. Excess iron is accumulated in tissues in the form of ferritin, and is also excreted through the kidneys, intestines and during sweating.

Indications for use

Tardiferon is a drug for the treatment and prevention of iron deficiency conditions of various origins, including with inadequate and unbalanced nutrition, decreased absorption of iron from the gastrointestinal tract, pregnancy and lactation, prolonged bleeding.

Contraindications

  • anemia not associated with iron deficiency (thalassemias, hemolytic and aplastic anemias, megaloblastic anemia associated with isolated deficiency of vitamin B 12);
  • violation of the mechanisms of iron utilization (sideroachrestic anemia caused by lead poisoning anemia);
  • increased iron content in the body (hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis);
  • acute bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract;
  • intestinal obstruction, esophageal stenosis, obstructive changes in the gastrointestinal tract;
  • invertase / isomaltase deficiency syndrome, galactose and glucose malabsorption syndrome, fructose intolerance;
  • children under 6 years old;
  • hypersensitivity to the individual components of the drug.

Carefully:

  • renal failure;
  • liver failure;
  • peptic ulcer and 12 duodenal ulcer;
  • inflammatory bowel disease;
  • alcoholism.

Instructions for the use of Tardiferon: method and dosage

Tardiferon tablets should be taken orally before meals or during meals: swallow whole and drink water.

For medicinal purposes, adults and children over 10 years of age are prescribed 1 tablet 1-2 times a day, children 6-10 years old - 1 tablet once a day.

For pregnant women, for preventive purposes, the drug is prescribed 1 tablet once a day or every other day during the II and III trimesters of pregnancy (starting from the 4th month of pregnancy).

The duration of admission is determined individually. The drug is taken until it is possible to correct the anemia and restore the iron reserve in the body.

With iron deficiency anemia, the duration of treatment is 3–6 months, depending on the degree of iron deficiency. In some cases, if anemia cannot be controlled, the duration of the drug may be increased.

Side effects

In rare cases, the following side effects occur:

  • from the digestive system: abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea or constipation, vomiting;
  • others: allergic reactions.

Overdose

Taking Tardiferon in high doses can provoke an increase in the manifestations of side effects. In case of deterioration of health in case of an overdose, it is recommended to rinse the stomach with 1% aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution and prescribe symptomatic therapy. Deferoxamine is a specific antidote.

special instructions

Before starting treatment, it is necessary to determine the content of iron and ferritin in the blood serum.

Patients should be warned that milk, coffee, cereals and bread reduce iron absorption.

During treatment, it is possible to stain the stool in a dark color, which has no clinical significance and is due to the removal of non-absorbed iron.

According to the instructions, Tardiferon may distort the results of the benzidine test.

Drug interactions

The following medicines reduce iron absorption:

  • pancrelipase, pancreatin;
  • preparations containing bicarbonates, oxalates, phosphates, carbonates;
  • antacids containing salts of magnesium, calcium, aluminum;
  • etidronic acid;
  • calcium preparations;
  • drugs that reduce the acidity of gastric juice (for example, cimetidine).

A mutual decrease in absorption is noted with the combined use of D-penicillamine, tetracyclines, egg yolk and tea.

In the case of a combination with the above drugs or food products, Tardiferon should be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after their use.

In high doses, the iron preparation reduces the absorption of zinc.

Ascorbic acid increases the absorption of iron.

Ethanol enhances iron absorption and increases the risk of developing toxic complications.

You should not prescribe other iron preparations (including for parenteral use) simultaneously with Tardiferon, since iron overdose is possible.

Analogs

Analogs of Tardiferon are: Ferrogradumet, Hemofer prolongatum, Gino-Tardiferon, Sorbifer Durules.

Terms and conditions of storage

Store at temperatures up to 30 ° C out of reach of children.

The shelf life is 3 years.

Terms of dispensing from pharmacies

Dispensed by prescription.

Reviews about Tardiferon

Numerous reviews of Tardiferon prove that the drug is considered quite effective by both patients and doctors. It normalizes the level of hemoglobin in the body after the first course of administration. In addition, users rarely mention the pronounced manifestations of side effects. Even with an alarmingly low hemoglobin content before the start of therapy, there is a sharp improvement in the patient's condition.

Tardiferon is often prescribed to pregnant women, since a decrease in hemoglobin concentration is often observed in the process of carrying a child. If anemia occurs, most patients recommend combining the intake of an iron supplement with a special diet. The good tolerance of Tardiferon has also been proven.

The price of Tardiferon in pharmacies

The average price for Tardiferon is approximately 195–270 rubles, depending on the pharmacy chain (the cost is given for a pack containing 30 tablets).
