1 tablet contains:
- active ingredients: codeine - 8 mg, sodium bicarbonate - 200 mg, thermopsis lanceolate herb - 20 mg, licorice roots - 200 mg;
- auxiliary components: microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinized starch, potato starch, sodium carboxymethyl starch (sodium starch glycolate, primogel), talc.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Kodelanov is a combined drug with a pronounced antitussive and expectorant effect.
The therapeutic effect of the drug is due to the following properties of the active ingredients in the composition of Codelanov:
- Codeine: an opium alkaloid that has a sedative and mild analgesic effect. By reducing the excitability of the cough center, it interrupts the reflexes that trigger a prolonged cough. Low doses of codeine do not disrupt the function of the ciliated epithelium, do not cause depression of the respiratory center and do not decrease bronchial secretion;
- sodium bicarbonate: stimulates the motility of the ciliated epithelium and bronchioles, helps to reduce the viscosity of sputum, causing the acidity of bronchial mucus to shift to the alkaline side;
- herb thermopsis lanceolate: has a pronounced expectorant effect, being a source of isoquinoline alkaloids. In addition, the biologically active substances of thermopsis have ganglion blocking effects. Stimulates the emetic and stimulates the respiratory center, increases the secretory function of the bronchial glands, enhances the activity of the ciliated epithelium, accelerates the excretion of secretions, increases the tone of bronchial smooth muscles;
- licorice root: anti-inflammatory, expectorant, antispasmodic effect. Relieves inflammatory reactions caused by histamine, serotonin and bradykinin. Undergoing metabolic transformations, glycyrrhizic acid exhibits a glucocorticosteroid-like effect. In the trachea and bronchi, glycyrrhizin stimulates the activity of the ciliated epithelium, enhances the secretory function of the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract, potentiating the expectorant effect. The content of flavone compounds in licorice roots provides the drug with an antispasmodic effect on smooth muscles.

It should be borne in mind that codeine crosses the blood-brain and placental barrier well.
Indications for use
The use of Codelanov is indicated for unproductive (no sputum formation) or unproductive cough.
Contraindications
Absolute:
- asthmatic status;
- respiratory failure;
- age up to 12 years;
- hypersensitivity to the components in Codelanov.
The combined drug should be taken with caution in case of impaired renal function, threatening miscarriage, during pregnancy (I and III trimesters especially) and breastfeeding.
Codelanov, instructions for use: method and dosage
Codelan tablets are taken orally.
Recommended dosage: 1 pc. 2-3 times a day. The duration of the course of treatment without consulting a doctor should not exceed 5 days.
Side effects
- from the nervous system: headache, drowsiness;
- allergic reactions: itching, urticaria;
- from the gastrointestinal tract: constipation, nausea, vomiting;
- others: against the background of long-term use without medical supervision - drug dependence to codeine.
Overdose
Symptoms: drowsiness, vomiting, depression of the respiratory center, headache, miosis, impaired coordination of eyeball movement, urinary retention, constipation.
Treatment: immediate gastric lavage using potassium permanganate and / or activated carbon. Emergency medical care, including the administration of atropine, respiratory analeptics and naloxone, which is a competitive physiological antagonist of codeine.

In case of impaired renal function, the elimination of codeine slows down, therefore, the interval between taking single doses of the drug should be increased.
During the course of treatment, the use of alcohol and ethanol-containing drugs is contraindicated.
Athletes should take into account that the active component of the drug, codeine, is doping.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms
During the period of treatment with Kodelanov, it is recommended to refrain from performing potentially hazardous types of work that require increased concentration of attention and high speed of psychomotor reactions, including from driving.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Caution should be taken when taking Codelanov tablets during pregnancy (especially in the first and third trimester), with the threat of miscarriage and breastfeeding.
Taking the drug during lactation is associated with the risk of developing respiratory depression in the child.
Pediatric use
The appointment of Kodelanov is contraindicated for the treatment of children under the age of 12 years.
With impaired renal function
Caution should be given to patients with impaired renal function.
Drug interactions
With simultaneous use with Codelanov:
- chloramphenicol: helps to slow down the metabolism of codeine in the liver, causing an increase in its systemic action;
- hypnotics, antipsychotic and other drugs that have a depressing effect on the central nervous system: the combination with these drugs can enhance the suppressive effect on the respiratory center and sedation;
- ethanol: codeine enhances the effect of ethanol on psychomotor function;
- cardiac glycosides: while taking high doses of codeine, the pharmacokinetics of cardiac glycosides are disrupted, their effect may be enhanced;
- adsorbents, coats and astringents: concomitant therapy with these drugs can reduce the absorption of alkaloids and codeine in the gastrointestinal tract.
