The composition of 1 tablet contains the following active ingredients:

- Codeine - 0.015 g;
- Terpinghydrate - 0.25 g.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Codterpine is a combination drug for the elimination of severe cough. It has an analgesic and expectorant effect.
Codeine is a phenanthrene alkaloid. It has a central suppressive effect on the cough center, thereby producing a direct antitussive effect. Codeine also activates opioid receptors in the intestine, which leads to relaxation of intestinal smooth muscles, a decrease in peristalsis and spasm of all sphincters. Codeine has analgesic activity. Its effect on the respiratory center is less pronounced than that of morphine. It is less likely to cause nausea, vomiting, constipation, and eye miosis.
In small doses, codeine does not affect the respiratory center and the function of the ciliated epithelium and does not suppress bronchial secretion.
Codterpine enhances the effects of analgesic, sedative and hypnotic drugs.
Terpinghydrate increases the secretory function of the bronchial glands, resulting in the expectorant effect of the drug.
Sodium bicarbonate shifts the pH of bronchial secretions to the alkaline side, thereby reducing the viscosity of sputum. In addition, it somewhat activates the motor function of the ciliated epithelium and bronchioles, and also facilitates the secretion of mucus from the respiratory tract and dulls the cough reflex.
Pharmacokinetics
The maximum therapeutic effect of Codterpine after taking the tablets inside is manifested after 30-60 minutes and lasts for 2-6 hours.
All components of the drug are well absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract.
Codeine is lipophilic, so it quickly crosses the blood-brain barrier. It accumulates mainly in adipose tissue. It also accumulates to a lesser extent in the lungs, liver, kidneys and spleen. Codeine is excreted in bile and urine.
Terpinghydrate and sodium bicarbonate are excreted from the body with urine and bronchial secretions during coughing.

In case of an overdose, the following symptoms may appear: nausea, vomiting, constriction of the pupils, bradycardia, tachycardia, slow breathing, headaches, constipation, disturbances in the coordination of the eyeballs, drowsiness, suppression of the respiratory center, cyanosis; rarely - pulmonary edema, lowering blood pressure, shortness of breath, apnea, urinary retention, convulsions, collapse.
If no more than one hour has passed after taking Codterpine in doses significantly exceeding the recommended ones, gastric lavage and activated charcoal are prescribed inside. Further treatment consists in measures aimed at eliminating the symptoms of an overdose. If necessary, bladder catheterization is performed and antibiotics are prescribed. Reviews about Codterpin
Relevant reviews of Codterpine as an antitussive agent are rare. Patients who took pills with a very strong cough note the effectiveness of the drug and the rapid onset of relief. However, when using Codterpine, it is necessary to strictly follow the doctor's recommendations and not exceed the indicated dose of the drug, since with regular abuse of codeine, drug dependence, similar to drug addiction, may develop. In this case, we can talk about drug addiction, the problem of which can be solved only by doctors of the relevant specialties (narcologists and psychotherapists).
Price for Codterpin in pharmacies
Currently, the price of Codterpin is unknown, since this drug is not sold in Russian pharmacies. An analogue of Codterpine - Terpinkod tablets (10 pcs. In a package) - can be purchased at a price of 380-460 rubles.
