Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Legalon 70 refers to hepatoprotective agents. The active substance of the drug, interacting with free radicals in the liver and converting them into compounds that are less toxic, interrupts the process of lipid peroxidation, preventing the destruction of cellular structures. The drug stimulates the production of functional and structural proteins, as well as phospholipids, in damaged liver cells (hepatocytes), as a result of specific stimulation of the RNA polymerase A enzyme. By stabilizing cell membranes, it prevents the loss of cell components - transaminases, increases the rate of liver cell regeneration. It inhibits the penetration into the cell of some substances toxic to the liver (in particular, the poison of the pale toadstool).
Pharmacokinetics
Silymarin is characterized by slow and low absorption, the half-absorption period is 2.2 hours. Metabolic transformation occurs through conjugation in the liver, the half-life is 6 hours. It is excreted mainly with bile in the form of sulfates and glucuronides, does not accumulate in the body. Intestinal-hepatic circulation is observed.
Indications for use
Legalon 70 is recommended for use for the treatment and prevention of toxic liver damage due to diseases / conditions such as:
