Release form and composition
Dosage form of release - capsules: hard gelatinous, brown body and lid, size No. 1; capsules contain yellow powder (10 pcs. in blisters, in a cardboard box of 2, 3 or 6 blisters).
Composition of 1 capsule:
- active ingredient: milk thistle in the form of dry fruit extract (36–44: 1) –173–186.7 mg (silymarin calculated from silibinin - 140 mg);
- auxiliary components: polysorbate 80, mannitol, povidone, magnesium stearate, sodium carboxymethyl starch (type A);
- capsule shell: gelatin, dyes iron oxide black and red (E172), titanium dioxide (E171), sodium lauryl sulfate.

Pharmacodynamics
Due to the interaction with free radicals in the liver and converting them into less toxic compounds (which leads to the interruption of the lipid peroxidation process) Legalon 140 prevents the destruction of cellular structures.
Other effects of the drug:
- inhibition of the penetration of certain hepatotoxic substances into the cell;
- stimulation of the synthesis of functional and structural proteins and phospholipids in damaged hepatocytes (due to specific stimulation of RNA polymerase A);
- prevention of loss of cell components (transaminases);
- stabilization of cell membranes;
- acceleration of liver cell regeneration.
Pharmacokinetics
Legalon 140 has a low and slow absorption (half-absorption period is approximately 2.2 hours).
Metabolism occurs in the liver by conjugation, T 1/2 (half-life) is 6 hours.
It is excreted mainly in the bile in the form of sulfates and glucuronides. It does not accumulate in the body. Intestinal-hepatic circulation is noted.
Indications for use
Legalon 140 is prescribed for the treatment and prevention of toxic liver damage in alcoholism, intoxication with heavy metal compounds and halogenated hydrocarbons, as well as medicinal liver damage.
Contraindications
- pregnancy and lactation period;
- individual intolerance to any component of the drug.
Instructions for use of Legalon 140: method and dosage
Legalon 140 is taken orally with a little water, preferably after meals.
Single dose - 1 capsule. During the treatment period, the recommended frequency of admission is 3 times a day, when used as maintenance therapy - 2 times a day.
