Ichthyol is an anti-inflammatory drug for local use with keratoplastic and anesthetic effects.

Release form and composition

Dosage forms:

  • Ointment for external use 10%: dark brown with a characteristic odor (25 or 100 g in cans, in a cardboard box 1 can; 100 g in aluminum tubes, in a cardboard box 1 tube; 25 or 30 g in aluminum tubes, in a paper bundle 1 tube);
  • Ointment for external use 20% (25 g in glass jars of dark color, in a cardboard box 1 can; 30 g in aluminum tubes, in a paper box 1 tube);
  • Rectal suppositories (5 pcs. In a blister strip, 2 packs in a cardboard box).

Each pack also contains instructions for the use of Ichthyol.

The active substance is ichtammol (ichthyol):

  • 1 g of ointment 10% - 100 mg;
  • 1 g of ointment 20% - 200 mg;
  • 1 suppository - 200 mg.

Auxiliary components:

  • Ointment 10%, 20% - petroleum jelly;
  • Suppositories - witepsol, in an amount sufficient to obtain a suppository weighing 1.23 g.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

The active substance in the composition of the Ichthyol preparation - Ichtammol (Ichthyol), has anti-inflammatory properties, has a local anesthetic, keratolytic and antiseptic effect. Suppression of the development of the inflammatory process is provided by inhibition of the release of inflammatory mediators. In addition, ichtammol exhibits antimicrobial (bactericidal) activity against Staphylococcus aureus (Staphylococcus aureus) and Streptococcus pyogenes (Streptococcus pyogenes).

Suppositories Ichthyol, when administered rectally, have an irritating effect on the rectal mucosa, as a result of which blood circulation in the pelvic organs reflexively increases and metabolism improves, which results in the elimination of inflammation of the prostate in men and inflammation of the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus in women.

Ointment Ichthyol helps to accelerate the ripening of boils.

Ichtammol causes denaturation of protein molecules, has a beneficial effect on inflammation of the mucous membranes by regulating vascular tone and restoring peripheral circulation.
