Release form and composition
- chewable tablets: flat-cylindrical, with a line, white or white-yellowish color (marbling of color is possible), with anise smell (packed in blisters of 4, 6, 7 and 10 pcs., 1-3 packs are packed in a cardboard box);
- capsules: size No. 3, with a gray body and a dark green cap; content - white or white-yellowish powder (packed in contour cell packs of 10 pcs., 1-3 packs are packed in a cardboard box).
Active ingredient: loperamide hydrochloride, in 1 tablet and 1 capsule - 2 mg.
Auxiliary components:
- tablets: Kollidon SR, lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, sucrose, lactitol, potato starch, xylitol (Xylitab 300), aspartame, colloidal silicon dioxide (Aerosil), magnesium stearate, povidone (Kollidon 90), polymethylsiloxane, mentol, anise oil;
- capsules: corn starch, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose.
Indications for use
Diara is intended for the symptomatic treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea:
- due to metabolic and absorption disorders;
- due to changes in diet and quality composition of food;
- under the condition of radiation, allergic, medicinal, emotional origin of the stool disorder.
In addition, the drug is used for diarrhea of infectious genesis (as an adjuvant) and for the regulation of stool in patients with ileostomy.
Contraindications
- violation of the passage of intestinal contents;
- diarrhea against the background of acute pseudomembranous enterocolitis;
- ulcerative colitis in the acute phase;
- diverticulosis;
- monotherapy for dysentery and other infections of the gastrointestinal tract;
- children under 6 years old;
- pregnancy (I trimester);
- lactation;
- hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.

Method of administration and dosage
Diara should be taken by mouth: swallow tablets / capsules whole and drink water.
The initial dose for adults is 4 mg (2 tablets / capsules), then 2 mg (1 tablet / capsule) after each act of defecation in case of loose stools. The highest permissible daily dose is 16 mg (8 tablets / capsules).
The recommended dose for children from 6 years of age is 2 mg (1 tablet / capsule) after each act of defecation, as long as the stool remains loose. The highest permissible daily dose is 6 mg (3 tablets / capsules)
Treatment is continued until the stool is normalized or absent for at least 12 hours.
Side effects
- digestive system: dry mouth, nausea, constipation, intestinal colic, gastralgia, vomiting; very rarely - intestinal obstruction;
- central nervous system: dizziness, drowsiness;
- allergic reactions: skin rash.
Overdose symptoms: intestinal obstruction, depression of the central nervous system (muscle hypertension, impaired coordination of movements, stupor, drowsiness, miosis, respiratory depression). Naloxone is used as an antidote to loperamide. Symptomatic treatment: gastric lavage, intake of activated charcoal, if necessary, artificial ventilation of the lungs. For 2 days after an overdose, the patient needs careful medical supervision.
