Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Glauvent is a centrally acting antitussive drug. Includes an alkaloid isolated from the plant yellow maca (glaucium flavum), which has the ability to suppress the cough center, but unlike codeine, it does not suppress the respiratory center. The drug has no negative effect on intestinal motility, with prolonged use it does not lead to drug dependence and addiction. Glaucine exhibits adrenolytic properties, can cause a decrease in blood pressure.
Pharmacokinetics
When taken orally, the agent is characterized by rapid absorption. Glaucine hydrobromide reaches C max in plasma approximately 1.5 hours after administration. The process of metabolic transformation of the substance occurs in the liver, it is excreted mostly in the urine.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Glauvent is recommended for use for the treatment of dry coughs of various etiologies accompanying the following diseases:
- infectious and inflammatory lesions of the upper respiratory tract, bronchi and lungs (including acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia);

- tuberculosis;
- lungs' cancer.

Instructions for the use of Glauvent: method and dosage

special instructions
Glaucine should not be used against the background of a productive cough with sputum production, since there is a risk of bronchial obstruction due to delayed bronchial secretion.
Patients with labile blood pressure need to take the drug with caution because of the possible development of collapse due to the sympatholytic action of Glauvent.
The dyes E 110 and E 124 included in the composition of the drug can provoke the appearance of allergic reactions.
One of the additional components of the drug is wheat starch, which may contain gluten, but only in a small amount. As a result, the drug is considered safe for people with celiac disease.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms
In view of the possible appearance of drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue and weakness during the period of therapy, patients who drive vehicles and other complex equipment should be careful.
