Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Gepon is an immunomodulatory drug with antiviral effects.
The use of the drug leads to the following effects:
- mobilization and activation of macrophages;
- induction of α- and β-interferons;
- stimulating the production of antibodies to various antigens of an infectious nature;
- limiting the production of inflammatory cytokines (interleukins 1, 6, 8 and tumor necrosis factor);
- an increase in the body's resistance to infections caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi;
- suppression of virus replication.
In patients infected with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), Gepon helps to reduce the concentration of HIV in plasma and blood cells. At the same time, there is an activation of immune responses specific to HIV. In most cases, such patients have an increase in the content of CD4 + T- and NK-cells, an increase in the functional activity of neutrophils and CD8 + T-cells, which are key links in the body's defense against viruses, bacteria and fungi. There is also an increase in the production of antibodies specific to HIV antigens and to antigens of opportunistic pathogens.
The course use of Gepon allows you to prevent recurrence of opportunistic infections for 3–6 months.
Local application of the drug in a short course is effective in the treatment of recurrent infections of the skin and mucous membranes caused by Candida fungi.
In addition, Gepon has an anti-inflammatory effect. 1-2 days after using the drug, the severity of signs of inflammation (in the form of redness and swelling, as well as a burning sensation, soreness, itching in the area of inflamed skin and mucous membranes) is significantly reduced. The use of Gepon allows you to eliminate dryness of the mucous membranes.
