Release form and composition
- Film-coated tablets: oblong, yellow-orange in color, with a line on one side; the cross section shows a lemon-yellow core (125 mg - 6 pcs. in a blister, 1 blister in a cardboard box; 250 mg - 3 pcs. in a blister, 1 blister in a cardboard box);
- Suspension for oral administration: homogeneous (precipitation is possible, after shaking the suspension becomes homogeneous), light yellow in color, with a characteristic odor (15 ml each in dark glass bottles, 1 bottle in a cardboard box complete with a measuring spoon).
Active ingredient: pyrantel (in the form of an embonate):
- 1 tablet - 125 or 250 mg;
- 1 ml of suspension - 50 mg.
Additional components of the tablets:
- Excipients: sodium carboxymethyl starch, pregelatinized corn starch, magnesium stearate;
- Shell composition: talc, Sepifilm 002 (macrogol 400 monostearate, methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose, hypromellose), Sepispers AP3065 yellow (titanium dioxide (E171), propylene glycol, sunset yellow dye (E110)).
Suspension excipients: soy lecithin, sodium benzoate, magnesium aluminosilicate, polysorbate 80, crystallized sorbitol, polyvidone, glycerol, silicone emulsion, citric acid, purified water, blackcurrant-caramel flavor.

Reception of Helmintoks leads to neuromuscular blockade of the drug-sensitive worms, ensuring their expulsion without excitation and stimulating the migration of the affected helminths.
The drug with high efficiency acts in the intestinal lumen on immature and mature sensitive helminths of both sexes (pinworms, hookworms, roundworms).
Pharmacokinetics
Helmintox is practically not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. With a single dose of 12.5 mg / kg, the concentration of the drug in plasma within 1-3 hours reaches 0.05-0.13 μg / ml. Partially metabolized in the liver to N-methyl-1.3-propanediamine. Approximately 93% of Helmintox is excreted unchanged through the intestines, the remaining 7% is excreted by the kidneys unchanged or as a metabolite.
Indications for use
- Ankylostomiasis;
- Enterobiasis;
- Ascariasis.
Contraindications
Absolute:
- Liver failure;
- Myasthenia gravis;
- Lactation;
- Hypersensitivity to the drug.
Suspension Helmintox is not prescribed for children weighing less than 12 kg. In tablets, the drug is contraindicated for up to 6 years.
During pregnancy, the drug can be prescribed only after a careful comparison of the expected benefits and potential risks.
According to the instructions, Helmintox should be used with caution when treating children under the age of 6 months, as well as patients with liver diseases.
Instructions for the use of Helmintoks: method and dosage
The drug is intended for oral administration. The suspension vial must be shaken immediately before taking.
Helmintox is prescribed once. You can take it at any time of the day, regardless of meals, without first taking laxatives.
With ascariasis and enterobiasis, 12.5 mg / kg of body weight are prescribed:
- Adults weighing more than 75 kg: 8 scoops (ml) of suspension, 8 tablets of 125 mg or 4 tablets of 250 mg;
- Adults weighing less than 75 mg: 6 ml. suspensions, 6 tablets 125 mg or 3 tablets 250 mg;
- Children over 6 years old: 1 ml. suspensions per 10 kg of body weight or 1 tablet of 125 mg per 10 kg of body weight;
- Children under 6 years old: 1 ml. suspensions per 10 kg of body weight.
To prevent re-infection after 3 weeks, it is recommended to repeat Helmintox.
In endemic zones, patients with Necator americanus infections and severe Ankylostoma duodenale infections are prescribed 25 mg / kg of body weight in 1-2 doses, for a course of 2-3 days. Recommended daily doses:
- Adults weighing more than 75 mg - 2000 mg;
- Adults weighing less than 75 mg - 1500 mg;
- Children - 250 mg for every 10 kg of weight.
In case of infection with Ankylostoma duodenale outside the endemic zones, Helmintox is prescribed at 12.5 mg / kg once (due to the milder course of the disease).
Side effects
- Digestive system: sometimes - abdominal pain, nausea and / or vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea (these symptoms are mainly due to the death of helminths), a short-term slight increase in the activity of hepatic transaminases;
- Central and peripheral nervous system: insomnia or drowsiness, paresthesia, dizziness, headache, hearing impairment, fatigue, confusion, hallucinations;
- Allergic reactions: urticaria, exanthema, itching;
- Others: hyperthermia.
Overdose
Even with a pronounced overdose, there are no signs of serious intoxication. There is no specific antidote, in case of an overdose it is recommended to rinse the stomach and seek medical help.
special instructions
The patient should be warned that in order to avoid re-infection, hygiene rules should be strictly observed: wash hands thoroughly, clean and trim nails, change underwear and bed linen daily, and avoid scratching the perineal area.
It is recommended to treat all family members at the same time.
After the end of the course of therapy, it is necessary to conduct a control study of feces for the presence of helminth eggs.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
The use of the drug during pregnancy is prohibited.
When prescribing the drug during lactation, breastfeeding should be interrupted.
Pediatric use
Children under 6 years of age are not prescribed the drug in the form of tablets.
When treating children under the age of 6 months, the Helmintox suspension is used with caution.
For violations of liver function
When treating patients with hepatic insufficiency, the drug is used with caution.
Drug interactions
It is not recommended to use simultaneously piperazine, levamisole.
In the case of combined use, pyrantel increases the concentration of theophylline in the blood plasma.
