Release form and composition
- Tablets (10 pieces in a blister, 1 or 3 blisters in a cardboard box);
- Solution for oral administration (in 50 ml dark glass vials with a dosing syringe, 1 vial in a cardboard box).
The active substances of Vasobral are:
- Caffeine (40 mg in 1 tablet, 10 mg in 1 ml of solution);
- Alpha-dihydroergocriptine mesylate (4 mg in 1 tablet, 1 mg in 1 ml of solution).
Tablets contain as auxiliary components: microcrystalline cellulose, anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate.
Auxiliary substances of the solution are: citric acid, glycerol, ethanol, purified water.

Vasobral is a combined preparation based on α-dihydroergocriptine and caffeine.
Caffeine, one of the active substances of Vasobral, provides a psychostimulating and analeptic effect, and also enhances the processes of arousal in the brain, which leads to an increase in physical and mental performance, a decrease in drowsiness and fatigue. This substance has a stimulating effect on the reflex excitability of the spinal cord, stimulates the vasomotor and respiratory centers, and has a diuretic effect.
Another active substance of the drug, α-dihydroergocriptine, is a dihydrogenated derivative of an ergot alkaloid that causes blockade of α 1 - and α 2 -adrenergic receptors. It has a serotonergic, dopaminergic effect, reduces the aggregation of erythrocytes and platelets, reduces the permeability of the vascular wall, lowers the number of functioning capillaries, stimulates blood circulation and metabolism in the brain, increases the resistance of brain tissues to hypoxia.
Pharmacokinetics
In the presence of caffeine, the absorption of dihydroergocriptine when taken orally is accelerated (the maximum concentration is reached 0.5 hours after ingestion).
The maximum concentration after oral administration of 8 mg α-dihydroergocriptine is 227 pg / ml. The half-life is less than 2 hours.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Vasobral is used in the following cases:
- Cerebrovascular insufficiency (including due to cerebral atherosclerosis);
- Vestibular and labyrinth disorders (tinnitus, dizziness, hypoacusia) of ischemic origin;
- Retinopathy (hypertensive and diabetic);
- Venous insufficiency;
- Decreased mental activity, impaired orientation in space, impaired attention and memory associated with age-related changes;
- Consequences of cerebrovascular accident;
- Meniere's disease;
- Peripheral arterial circulation disorders (Raynaud's disease and syndrome).
The drug is also prescribed to prevent migraines.
Contraindications
The use of Vasobral is contraindicated if the patient has hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Instructions for use of Vasobral: method and dosage
Vazobral solution and tablets are recommended to be taken orally with meals 2 times a day with a small amount of liquid. When using tablets, a single dose is 0.5-1 tablets, solution - 2-4 ml (1-2 dosing syringes).
The duration of the course of treatment is 2-3 months, if necessary, the course of treatment can be repeated.
Side effects
The use of Vasobral can cause the following side effects:
- From the gastrointestinal tract: nausea, dyspepsia, gastralgia (such manifestations do not require discontinuation of the drug);
- Rarely (no more than 1% of cases): headaches and dizziness, agitation;
- Very rare (no more than 0.1% of cases): lowering blood pressure, tachycardia, allergic reactions.
Overdose
In case of an overdose, vomiting may occur and the severity of side effects may increase. Symptomatic treatment is indicated.
