Butadion is a drug belonging to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Release form and composition

The drug is available in the form:

• Ointments for external use 5% (in aluminum tubes of 20 g and in dark glass jars of 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 50 g);
• Tablets 150 mg (in contour packs of 10 and 20 pieces).

The active ingredient of Butadion is phenylbutazone.

Indications for the use of Butadion ointment are:

Contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Butadion ointment are:

• Violation of the integrity of the skin in the intended place of application of the drug;
• A history of allergic rhinitis, an attack of bronchial obstruction, urticaria after therapy with acetylsalicylic acid or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
• Concomitant use of other drugs containing phenylbutazone;
• Hypersensitivity of the patient to the components of the drug, as well as to acetylsalicylic acid and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
• I and III trimesters of pregnancy;
• Lactation period;
• Age less than 14 years old.

Contraindications to the use of Butadion tablets:

• Severe renal and hepatic impairment;
• "Aspirin" triad (a combination of recurrent polyposis of the paranasal sinuses and nose, bronchial asthma and intolerance to acetylsalicylic acid and pyrazolone drugs);
• Bone marrow suppression;
• Hypersensitivity to drug components.

Method of administration and dosage

When using Butadion ointment:

The drug is used externally. It is recommended 2-3 times at knocks to apply a strip of ointment with a thin layer of 2-3 cm above the focus of inflammation, without rubbing. Duration of treatment is 7-10 days. After 10 days of treatment, you should consult a doctor.

When using Butadion tablets:

The drug is recommended to be taken orally 2-4 times in knocks of 100-150 mg. The duration of treatment is from 2 to 5 weeks.

Side effects

The use of Butadion ointment can cause:

Avoid getting the drug on open wounds, butadion should be applied only to intact skin surfaces. After application, do not apply an occlusive dressing.

The appearance of skin redness is the basis for discontinuation of the drug.

Avoid getting the ointment on the mucous membranes and in the eyes.

Do not use Butadion in the treatment of deep vein thrombophlebitis of the extremities.
