Release form and composition

The drug is produced in the form of a syrup: a viscous liquid from light yellow to yellow-green color, having a specific smell of basil oil (125 g each in dark glass or polyethylene terephthalate bottles, 1 bottle in a cardboard box, a measuring spoon or glass and instructions for using Bronholitin) …

5 g of syrup contains active substances:

  • 5 mg glaucine hydrobromide;
  • 4 mg ephedrine hydrochloride.

Auxiliary components that make up the drug:

  • Basil oil;
  • Anhydrous citric acid;
  • Sucrose;
  • Ethanol 96% (1.7 vol%);
  • Propyl parahydroxybenzoate (nipazole);
  • Polysorbate 80;
  • Methyl parahydroxybenzoate (nipagin);
  • Purified water.

Pharmacodynamics

Bronholitin is a combined drug that has an antitussive and bronchodilator effect, which is due to the properties of the active components:

  • Glaucine hydrobromide: its action is aimed at suppressing the cough center, while the development of respiratory depression, drug dependence and constipation is not observed;
  • Ephedrine: promotes the expansion of the bronchi, stimulates breathing, eliminates edema of the bronchial mucosa (due to vasoconstrictor properties).

Basil oil, which is part of Bronholitin, has a mild sedative, antispasmodic and antimicrobial effect.

Pharmacokinetics

The active components of Bronholitin after oral administration are absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract well and quickly. The maximum concentration of glaucine is reached in 1.5 hours.

Glaucine metabolism occurs in the liver, excretion is carried out mainly in the urine.

Ephedrine is excreted unchanged in the urine. Its half-life ranges from 3 to 6 hours.

Indications for use

Bronholitin is prescribed as part of the complex treatment of various respiratory diseases accompanied by dry cough, including:

Contraindications
