Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Tagista is one of the drugs that improve the microcirculation of the labyrinth. It is used for pathologies of the vestibular apparatus.
The active substance, betahistine, acts primarily on the histamine H1 and H3 receptors of the inner ear and the vestibular nuclei of the central nervous system.
Due to the direct agonist effect on the histamine H1 receptors of the inner ear vessels, as well as indirectly through the effect on the histamine H3 receptors, the following effects are observed:
- normalization of endolymph pressure in the labyrinth and cochlea;
- improved microcirculation and capillary permeability.
At the same time, betahistine increases blood flow in the basilar artery.
Has a pronounced central effect. Promotes the normalization of conductivity in the neurons of the vestibular nuclei at the level of the brain stem.
As a result of the use of the drug, a decrease in the frequency and intensity of dizziness, a decrease in tinnitus, an improvement in hearing in cases of hearing loss are observed.
Pharmacokinetics
Betahistine is rapidly absorbed. The binding of the substance to plasma proteins is low. The time to reach the maximum plasma concentration (T max) is 3 hours.
It is excreted within 24 hours almost completely by the kidneys in the form of a metabolite (2-pyridylacetic acid). The half-life varies from 3 to 4 hours.
