Methylprednisolone is a hormonal drug.
pharmachologic effect
Methylprednisolone refers to glucocorticosteroids, has anti-shock, immunosuppressive, anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, desensitizing, anti-toxic effects.
The drug tends to increase the excitability of the nervous system, reduce the number of lymphocytes, and increase the number of erythrocytes.
Taking part in protein metabolism, Methylprednisolone reduces the amount of protein, stimulates the production of albumin in the liver and kidneys, and enhances the processing of protein in the muscles.
In the process of lipid metabolism, Methylprednisolone increases the production of higher fatty acids, redistributes fatty deposits (mainly on the abdomen, shoulder girdle, face).
Taking part in the metabolism of carbohydrates, Methylprednisolone stimulates the absorption of carbohydrates from the gastrointestinal tract, increases the amount of glucose entering the blood from the liver.
In electrolyte-water metabolism, Methylprednisolone plays the role of a substance that retains water and sodium, stimulates the excretion of potassium, reduces the absorption of calcium from the gastrointestinal tract, and increases the excretion of calcium by the kidneys.

Contraindications
According to the instructions, methylprednisolone should not be prescribed for severe hypertension, diabetes mellitus, Itsenko-Cushing's disease, acute endocarditis, circulatory insufficiency of the 3rd stage, osteoporosis, gastrointestinal ulcers, syphilis, tuberculosis in the active phase, after recent operations. Pregnant women, elderly patients, children under 12 years old do not take Methylprednisolone.
Methylprednisolone aceponate is contraindicated for specific skin lesions: chickenpox, tuberculosis, syphilis, for skin reactions to vaccination, for viral diseases.
Instructions for the use of Methylprednisolone
Methyleprednisolone intravenously, intramuscularly injected with adrenal insufficiency in children in the following volumes: 0.14 mg / kg / day h / z for two days. For other indications, children are injected with 0.139-0.835 mg / kg every 12-24 hours. Adults are shown to inject 4-60 mg / day for 1-4 weeks.
In a state of cardiogenic, burn, anaphylactic, traumatic shock or rejection of transplanted organs, tissues, children and adults are injected intravenously 4-20 mg / kg of Methylprednisolone. Side effects
Methylprednisolone causes a retention of sodium, water, leads to a loss of potassium, can provoke an increase in pressure, weakening of muscles, damage to the walls of the stomach, menstrual irregularities, and adrenal function.
Because of Methylprednisolone, osteoporosis, mental disorders can develop, and resistance to infections can decrease.
Ointment with prolonged therapy can cause erythema, rash, burning, itching, skin atrophy, acne, hypertrichosis, folliculitis, dermatitis, allergic reactions.
