Dosed nasal spray Tizin Xylo BIO
Dosed nasal spray Tizin Xylo BIO

Tizin Xylo BIO is a decongestant (decongestant) agent.

Release form and composition

Dosage form - dosed nasal spray: colorless or slightly yellowish, transparent or slightly opalescent solution [10 ml each (at least 140 doses of 0.05% spray, at least 70 doses of 0.1% spray) in polyethylene bottles equipped with a dosing device, in a cardboard box 1 bottle].

Composition of 1 ml of the preparation:

  • active substance: xylometazoline hydrochloride - 0.5 or 1 mg;
  • auxiliary components: purified water, sorbitol, glycerol, sodium phosphate dihydrate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sodium hyaluronate, sodium chloride.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Xylometazoline is an imidazole derivative, an alpha-adrenostimulant. When administered intranasally, it narrows the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, thereby eliminating edema and hyperemia, facilitating nasal breathing with rhinitis.

The Tizin Xylo BIO spray contains hyaluronic acid as an auxiliary component. It keeps the mucous membranes moist (produces a moisturizing effect), and also creates optimal conditions for recovery processes.

The action of the drug develops within 5-10 minutes after injection into the nasal passage.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied topically, xylometazoline is practically not absorbed. In the blood plasma, the concentration of the drug is so low that it is impossible to determine them using modern analytical methods.

In humans, pharmacokinetic studies of xylometazoline have not been conducted.

Indications for use

  • reduction of swelling of the nasal mucosa with rhinitis (including allergic), hay fever, acute respiratory diseases with symptoms of rhinitis;
  • relief of discharge from the nose with paranasal sinusitis and inflammation of the middle ear caused by the common cold.

Contraindications

  • thyrotoxicosis;
  • severe cardiovascular diseases (for example, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, severe atherosclerosis, angina pectoris, ischemic heart disease);
  • atrophic rhinitis;
  • a history of meninges surgery;
  • hypersensitivity to drug components.

Age contraindications Tizin Xylo BIO for children: spray 0.05% - up to 2 years; spray 0.1% - up to 6 years.

According to the instructions, Tizin Xylo BIO can be used strictly according to the doctor's prescription, after assessing the benefits and risks, in the following cases: increased intraocular pressure, narrow-angle glaucoma, pheochromocytoma, metabolic disorders, prostatic hyperplasia, the use of MAO inhibitors (monoamine oxidase) or other drugs capable of cause an increase in blood pressure.

Instructions for the use of Tizin Xylo BIO: method and dosage

Tizine Xylo BIO is administered intranasally.

Adults and children from 6 years old are prescribed 0.1% spray. The drug is administered in one dose * into each nasal passage up to 3 times a day.

Children 2-6 years old are prescribed 0.05% spray. Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the drug is administered in one dose * into each nasal passage 1-2 times a day.

* 1 dose = 1 press of the spray. The amount of active substance in one dose: 0.035 mg - for a spray of 0.05%, 0.14 mg - for a spray of 0.1%.

Dosage depends on the clinical effect and the patient's individual sensitivity to xylometazoline.

The duration of treatment without agreement with the attending physician should not exceed 5 days. After the end of therapy, the drug can be reused no earlier than a few days later.

Before using Tizin Xylo BIO for children, you should always consult a doctor.

In chronic rhinitis, there is a risk of atrophy of the nasal mucosa, therefore, the drug must be used under medical supervision.

Before using the nasal spray for the first time, you should calibrate it: press the spray nozzle several times until a uniform cloud of mist appears.

During the administration of the drug, it is necessary to inhale through the nose. Do not spray horizontally or downward.

Store the bottle vertically, close the cap after use.

Side effects

  • on the part of the cardiovascular system: in isolated cases (0.1% - <1%) - increased blood pressure, palpitations, arrhythmia, tachycardia;
  • from the nervous system: in rare cases (> 0.01% - <1%) - visual impairment, headache, fatigue, insomnia; with prolonged use in high doses - depression;
  • from the respiratory system: transient slight irritation of the nose or burning sensation, sneezing; often (> 1 - <10%) after discontinuation of the drug - reactive hyperemia (increased swelling of the nasal mucosa).

With prolonged and too frequent use of Tizin Xylo BIO or with its use in high doses, the following phenomena are possible: burning sensation in the nose, dryness of the mucous membrane, reactive nasal congestion with the development of drug-induced rhinitis, sneezing, paresthesia, hypersecretion. This effect can occur even 5-7 days after discontinuation of the drug, and with prolonged treatment can cause the development of chronic inflammation of the nasal mucosa with the formation of crusts (dry rhinitis).

Overdose

Symptoms: fever, dilated pupils, cyanosis, nausea, vomiting, arrhythmia, tachycardia, hypertension, convulsions, mental disorders, respiratory failure, collapse, cardiac arrest, pulmonary edema. It is also possible suppression of the functions of the central nervous system, accompanied by a decrease in body temperature, drowsiness, hypotension, bradycardia, apnea, coma.

The first measures after administration of a dose significantly exceeding the recommended: gastric lavage and intake of activated charcoal. Further treatment is symptomatic. To reduce high blood pressure, phentolamine is used (100 mg orally or 5 mg slowly intravenously in saline). If necessary, prescribe anticonvulsant and antipyretic drugs, carry out artificial ventilation of the lungs with the introduction of oxygen. The use of vasopressor agents is contraindicated.

special instructions

With prolonged use and overdose of Tizin Xylo BIO, it is possible to develop reactive hyperemia of the nasal mucosa, which impedes nasal breathing, which causes the patient to have repeated or even constant use of the drug. As a result, chronic swelling develops (rhinitis medicamentosa), which can lead to atrophy of the nasal mucosa with the development of ozena (fetid rhinitis).

In case of a milder course of the disease, in order to improve the condition, it is recommended to stop the administration of the drug into one nostril and, after reducing complaints, continue its administration into the other nasal passage, in order to at least partially ensure nasal breathing.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms

With prolonged use of Tizin Xylo BIO or using high doses, there is a possibility of developing systemic side effects. In this case, it is possible to impair the patient's ability to drive vehicles and perform potentially hazardous activities.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

Clinical studies on the effect of xylometazoline on the fetus have not been carried out, therefore, pregnant women are not recommended to use Tizin Xylo BIO.

It is not known whether the drug is excreted in breast milk, so it should not be used during lactation.

Pediatric use

Spray Tizin Xylo BIO 0.05% is contraindicated in children under the age of 2 years, spray 0.1% - up to 6 years.

Drug interactions

With the simultaneous use of tricyclic antidepressants or MAO inhibitors such as tranylcypromine, an increase in blood pressure is possible due to the cardiovascular effects of these drugs.
