Hemarthrosis
Brief description of the disease
Hemarthrosis is one of the most common and most specific manifestations of hemophilia, which is bleeding into the joints. The first signs of the disease usually manifest themselves at the age of 1 to 3 years, and then accompany a person for the rest of his life, causing unbearable pain. As a rule, patients are diagnosed with hemarthrosis of the knee joint, however, hemorrhages are also possible in the elbow, ankle, shoulder and hip joints. The cause of the disease is various injuries, intra-articular injuries, bruises.
Hemarthrosis - symptoms and clinical picture of the disease
Most of the adverse changes in hemarthrosis are associated with an increase in intra-articular pressure and impaired blood circulation. As a result, the disintegrating blood cells begin to affect the surrounding tissues, which over time acquire properties and characteristics that are alien to the body. This process leads to a change in the smooth cartilage, and in the future, hemarthrosis, which has not been treated or carried out incorrectly, can cause complete destruction of the joint.
The characteristic signs of hemarthrosis are edema and swelling in the joint area, pain, limited mobility. The latter is associated with the formation of scar tissue, which accumulates in the joint space and causes irreversible changes.
Hemarthrosis of the knee joint - treatment of the disease
Immediately, we note that at the first unfavorable symptoms, you should immediately consult a doctor. A timely diagnosis will save you from many problems and minimize the likelihood of severe complications and complete immobility of the joint. Treatment of hemarthrosis involves replacement therapy. In the overwhelming majority of cases, a single administration of the drug can eliminate almost all sudden bleeding.
Launched hemarthrosis, the treatment of which was prescribed too late for some reason, requires reconstructive orthodontics - an operation aimed at restoring joint mobility. A variety of techniques can be used for this. In particular, hemarthrosis of the knee joint is cured by removing the blood and then injecting kenalog or hydrocortisone into the joint. This, by the way, is at the same time the safest method of treatment, but surgery should be performed immediately after the first hemorrhage, which guarantees 100% restoration of joint mobility and preservation of its health for many years.
Another promising method for treating hemorrhage is endoprosthetics. In this case, doctors replace a person's own joint with an artificial prosthesis, which is made of an alloy of Teflon and titanium. Thus, hemarthrosis of any severity can be treated. The most important thing is that the prosthesis is not rejected by the body, since it is made of neutral materials.
To prevent bleeding, drugs that increase blood clotting are used. They are prescribed for severe injuries and bruises of the joints, but the best way to avoid hemarthrosis is still to observe elementary caution when playing sports.
If you do not trust hemostatic drugs, then the treatment of hemarthrosis of the knee joint can be carried out using folk remedies. In most cases, homeopaths recommend taking infusions and decoctions of various herbs - oregano, yarrow, nettle and lagochilus.
