Biltricide is an anthelmintic drug.
Composition and form of release
Biltricid is produced in the form of film-coated tablets. The main active ingredient in each tablet is 600 mg of praziquantel. Auxiliary components of the preparation: microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, sodium lauryl sulfate, titanium dioxide, macrogol 4000, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, povidone.
In dark glass vials, 6 pcs.
Pharmacological action of Biltricid
According to the instructions, biltricide is an anthelmintic drug that increases the permeability of helminth cell membranes for calcium ions. This, in turn, stimulates the generalized contraction of the muscles of the parasites and stops the uptake of glucose by helminth cells. At the same time, the use of Biltricide reduces the level of glycogen and stimulates the release of lactic acid compounds, which leads to the death of parasites. Praziquantel is specifically active against cestodes and trematodes.
Indications for the use of Biltricid
According to the instructions, Biltricide is prescribed for the treatment of infections caused by all kinds of schistosomes (Schistosoma mekongi, Schistosoma intercalatum, Schistosoma haematobium, Schistosoma japonicum, Schistosoma mansoni), as well as those caused by hepatic flukes (Opistorchis viverrini, Clonorchis sinus) fluke
Contraindications
The use of Biltricid is contraindicated in the following cases:
- Hypersensitivity to the main or auxiliary components of the drug;
- Children up to age four;
- In combination with rifampicin;
- Cysticercosis of the eyes.
According to reviews, Biltricid should be prescribed with caution in cardiac arrhythmias, hepatolienal schistosomiasis, decompensated liver failure.
Method of application of Biltricid and dosage regimen

Reception should be carried out shortly before or immediately during a meal. If the recommended dosage of Biltricid is 1 tablet per day, then it is better to take it in the evening. If the use of Biltricid is repeated throughout the day, then an interval of 4-6 hours must be observed between taking the tablets.
Dosages of Biltricide are set individually, depending on the type of pathogen.
According to the instructions, Biltricid is prescribed for children over four years of age and for adults in the following dosages:

- At 25 mg / kg body weight three times a day for 1-3 days for infections caused by Clonorchis sinensis, Opisthorchis viverrini, Paragonimus westermani.
The use of Biltricid during pregnancy and breastfeeding
According to reviews, Biltricide is not recommended to be prescribed in the first trimester of pregnancy. Since praziquantel passes into breast milk, it is recommended to suspend breastfeeding for the period of taking Biltricide, and also on the next day after the end of taking the drug.

When Biltricide is combined with drugs that inhibit liver enzymes of the cytochrome P450 system, the concentration of praziquantel may, on the contrary, increase in blood plasma.
The simultaneous use of biltricide and chloroquine leads to a decrease in the level of praziquntel in the blood plasma.
