Biartrin is a drug that stimulates the regeneration of cartilage tissue.
Release form and composition
Biartrin is available in the form of a solution for intramuscular (i / m) administration: a clear yellowish-brown liquid with a specific smell of metacresol (1 ml each in dark glass ampoules with a capacity of 2 ml: 5 ampoules each - in contoured plastic packaging (pallets) or in blisters, in cardboard packs 1 or 2 packages or pallets; 5 or 10 ampoules in a cardboard box with a partition).
1 ml of solution contains:
- active substance: glycosaminoglycan-peptide complex - 2.5 mg;
- auxiliary components: metacresol, water for injection.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Biartrin is a drug of animal origin, the combined composition of which ensures the regulation of metabolic processes in the hyaline tissue of cartilage. The glycosaminoglycan-peptide complex consists of the bone marrow and cartilage of young calves. The combined action of the active components promotes the potentiation of the biosynthesis of collagen, sulfated mucopolysaccharides, and stimulates the regeneration of the articular cartilage. Reduces the activity of enzymes and the rate of catabolic processes in cartilage tissue.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Biartrin is indicated for the treatment of the following degenerative-dystrophic diseases of the joints:
- arthrosis of the interdigital joints;
- gonarthrosis;
- coxarthrosis;
- spondyloarthrosis;
- spondylosis;
- chondromalacia of the patella;
- meniscopathy.
Contraindications
- rheumatoid arthritis;
- period of pregnancy;
- breast-feeding;
- age up to 18 years;
- use in women of reproductive age who do not use reliable methods of contraception;
- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Biartrin should be prescribed with caution to patients on concomitant therapy with antiplatelet agents, indirect anticoagulants, fibrinolytic agents.
Instructions for the use of Biartrin: method and dosage
The solution is used by deep intramuscular injection.
Recommended dosage regimen:
- the first day: once - 0.3 ml;
- second day: once - 0.5 ml;
- then every other day (3 times a week): 1 ml of solution.
The duration of the course of therapy is 35–42 days.
The need for a second course is determined by the doctor; when he is prescribed, the treatment is carried out according to the same scheme.
Side effects
In rare cases, allergic reactions occur during treatment, including anaphylactoid reactions and anaphylactic shock.
Overdose
Overdose symptoms have not been established.

The use of the drug in patients who are on concomitant therapy with indirect anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents or fibrinolytic agents should be accompanied by regular careful monitoring of blood coagulation parameters.
Due to the existing risk of developing allergic reactions within one hour after the injection, the patient needs medical supervision.
In case of signs of the development of undesirable phenomena, the patient should immediately inform the doctor about them.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Since there is no information about the safety of using Biartrin during gestation and breastfeeding, the appointment of the drug during this period is contraindicated.
During the period of treatment, women of reproductive age must use reliable methods of contraception.
Pediatric use
The use of the drug in patients under the age of 18 is contraindicated.
Drug interactions
With the simultaneous use of Biartrin:
- non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, glucocorticosteroids do not violate the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of the solution, their combination with the drug is shown;
- indirect anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, fibrinolytics can enhance their effect.
