Gastracid is a combined antacid with an enveloping, absorbent, carminative and mild laxative effect. Reduces the activity of gastric juice and neutralizes free hydrochloric acid in the stomach, thereby eliminating heartburn and pain in the stomach.

Release form and composition

Dosage form - chewable tablets: round or square, with a beveled edge, NP engraving on both sides on a wood background, white or white with a grayish-yellowish-greenish shade, with a slight mint aroma (round tablets - 10 pcs. Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Gastracid is a combined drug that allows you to eliminate heartburn and pain in the stomach due to the pharmacological properties of its components:

  • magnesium hydroxide: the substance has a slight laxative effect;
  • algeldrate: aluminum hydroxide hydrate has an antacid, carminative, enveloping and adsorbing effect.

Gastracid neutralizes free hydrochloric acid accumulating in the stomach, inhibits the activity of gastric juice, activates the motility of the stomach and all parts of the intestine, protects the mucous membrane of the duodenum and stomach from negative effects, is a pepsin inactivator, binds bile acids that penetrate into the stomach due to reflux … When applied, alkalosis and secondary hypersecretion of hydrochloric acid are not observed.

Pharmacokinetics

The study of the pharmacokinetic parameters of the drug is not possible due to low absorption into the systemic circulation.

Indications for use

  • acute duodenitis;
  • acute gastritis during an exacerbation (with normal or increased secretory function);
  • exacerbation of peptic ulcer of the duodenum and stomach;
  • reflux esophagitis;
  • hernia of the esophageal opening of the diaphragm;
  • heartburn, discomfort and pain in the epigastrium due to inaccuracies in diet, taking certain medications (including glucocorticosteroids and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), drinking coffee, alcohol, nicotine.

Contraindications

Instructions for the use of Gastracid: method and dosage

The drug is indicated for oral administration: the tablets should be chewed or kept in the mouth until completely dissolved.

Adults and adolescents from 15 years of age are prescribed 1-2 tab. 4 times a day 1 hour after a meal and before bedtime or in case of heartburn, pain and discomfort in the epigastrium.

Patients with peptic ulcer disease should take the drug 30 minutes before meals.

The highest daily dose is 12 tablets.

The recommended dose for children aged 10-15 years is half the adult dose.

For preventive purposes, Gastracid should be taken 1 tab. 15 minutes before taking a drug that irritates the mucous membrane of the esophagus, duodenum and stomach.

The duration of treatment is determined individually, but should not exceed 15–20 days.

Side effects

When taking the drug, the following side effects may occur:

  • change in taste, stomach pain of a spastic nature, nausea, constipation, vomiting;
  • hypocalcemia, hypophosphatemia, hypermagnesemia, hypercalciuria, hyperaluminaemia;
  • osteoporosis, osteomalacia;
  • impaired renal function, nephrocalcinosis;
  • allergic reactions;
  • thirst, hyporeflexia, lowering blood pressure - in patients with concomitant renal failure.

Overdose symptoms: severe constipation, hypermagnesemia, kidney stones, drowsiness, metabolic alkalosis is possible (mood changes, fatigue, nervousness, unpleasant taste, numbness or muscle pain). In case of taking a dose exceeding the recommended one, you should rinse the stomach as soon as possible, induce vomiting and take activated charcoal.

Overdose

The main symptoms of an overdose of Gastracid are hypermagnesemia, kidney stones, drowsiness, and severe constipation. Also, taking the drug in high doses is sometimes accompanied by signs of metabolic alkalosis: unpleasant taste sensations, mood changes, nervousness and increased fatigue, pain or numbness in the muscles. In this case, it is necessary to immediately take measures to ensure the rapid elimination of the drug: provocation of vomiting, gastric lavage, intake of activated carbon.
