Brief description of the disease

Urticaria is a skin condition with blisters on the surface of the skin and mucous membranes. The lesions have a reddish tint, accompanied by severe itching and tissue swelling. They exist, as a rule, for a short time (no more than one and a half days). Urticaria, the symptoms of which are caused by the release of large amounts of histamine into the bloodstream, is a consequence of an increase in the permeability of capillary vessels and their persistent expansion. For this reason, most researchers explain the appearance of this disease by an allergic reaction of the body to external stimuli.

Urticaria in children and adults is divided into two forms - acute and chronic. The first lasts about a month and a half and occurs after ingestion of allergic foods, certain medications, insect bites and blood transfusions. In addition to the standard symptoms, the patient often has severe emotional distress caused by ugly and multiple blisters. Acute urticaria, which is not treated or carried out negligently, develops into a chronic one. It is much more difficult to get rid of it, so at the first signs of the disease, contact your doctor.

Urticaria - symptoms and clinical picture

The most important sign of an allergic reaction of the body is the sudden appearance of blisters, which eventually merge into one large affected area. The development of pathology is accompanied by a sharp deterioration in human well-being, as well as individual symptoms of fever. Severe forms of the disease cause swelling of the fatty tissue that affects the face and genitals. Patients' skin becomes pale pinkish in color. In the absence of adequate treatment, edema of the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract develops, which can lead to stenosis of the blood vessels and even asphyxia.

Exacerbations of the disease provoke an increase in body temperature, headache, and rapid fatigue. Often, urticaria in children and adults causes disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, which manifests itself in the form of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Constant itching is also a big concern. It leads to sleep disturbances and psycho-emotional breakdowns.

People with skin sensitivities may develop so-called solar urticaria. Symptoms of the disease in this case appear after prolonged exposure of the skin to ultraviolet rays. Usually, solar urticaria occurs in women in the spring and summer.

First of all, you should identify the cause of the blistering and take all the necessary measures to eliminate it. Patients are prescribed an elimination diet and cleansing enemas for at least 3 days. All foods that cause allergic reactions are excluded from the standard diet: chicken, citrus fruits, chocolate, smoked meats, eggs, canned food, pickles and carbonated drinks.

When diagnosed with urticaria, treatment consists in taking antihistamines. The most commonly used are bronal, terfenadine, astelong, teridin, telfast, lomilan, cetrin, zyrtec, kestin and claritin. In cholinergic urticaria, M-anticholinergic blockers such as belloid, bellataminal and bellaspon will be effective.

Alternative treatment of urticaria

As with many other skin conditions, urticaria can be treated with various traditional medicines. Here are just a few of them:
