Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Vitamin C is not produced in the human body and comes only with food. In the case of inadequate and / or unbalanced nutrition, a person suffers from a lack of ascorbic acid.

Vitamin C is involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates, regulates redox processes, is necessary for blood clotting and tissue regeneration. Plays an important role in the synthesis of procollagen, collagen and corticosteroids; enhances the absorption of non-heme iron and is present in the metabolism of iron; promotes the accumulation of glycogen in the liver; normalizes capillary permeability; increases the synthesis of prothrombin. Ascorbic acid has a pronounced antioxidant effect and has antiplatelet properties. Takes part in the metabolism of pigments, cholesterol and aromatic amino acids.

By activating respiratory enzymes in the liver, vitamin C enhances its protein-forming and detoxification function. Ascorbic acid inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins and other mediators of pain and inflammation, inhibits the release of histamine and accelerates its breakdown.

Ascovit regulates immune responses (activates the synthesis of interferons, antibodies and the C3 component of complement), increases the body's resistance to infectious agents and promotes phagocytosis.

Pharmacokinetics

After taking Ascovit inside, vitamin C is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract (mainly in the jejunum). About 25% binds to plasma proteins. Diseases of the digestive tract reduce the absorption of ascorbic acid. 4 hours after taking the drug in the blood, its maximum concentration is reached.

Ascorbic acid easily penetrates into platelets and leukocytes, and then into all tissues and organs; the highest concentrations of the substance are found in the liver, lens of the eye, leukocytes and glandular organs. It accumulates in the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland, ocular epithelium, lungs, liver, pancreas, spleen, adrenal cortex, thyroid gland, interstitial cells of the seminal glands, intestinal walls, ovaries, kidneys, muscles and heart. Passes through the placental barrier.

The drug metabolism occurs mainly in the liver. Ascorbic acid is excreted unchanged and in the form of metabolites through the intestines, kidneys, breast milk and sweat.

Ethanol and nicotine accelerate the destruction of vitamin C and drastically reduce its reserves in the body.

Indications for use

Ascovit is used for the prevention and treatment of vitamin deficiency and hypovitaminosis C.

In addition, the drug is prescribed as an adjuvant for the following diseases and conditions:

  • hemorrhagic diathesis;
  • acute radiation sickness;
  • increased mental and physical stress;
  • uterine, pulmonary, nasal and other types of bleeding;
  • bone fractures and sluggish healing wounds;
  • overdose of anticoagulant drugs;
  • recovery period after long and severe illness.

Contraindications

Askovit is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to its components.

Long-term therapy with daily doses of more than 500 mg is contraindicated in the following diseases and conditions:

  • hemochromatosis;
  • hyperoxaluria;
  • thalassemia;
  • phenylketonuria;
  • nephrolithiasis;
  • deficiency of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase;
  • glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome;
  • intolerance to fructose;
  • isomaltase / sucrase deficiency;
  • childhood.

Askovit powder and tablets are used with caution in patients with kidney stones, impaired renal function, diabetes mellitus and sideroblastic anemia.

Askovit, instructions for use: method and dosage

The drug is taken orally, after meals.

Ascovit effervescent tablets must first be dissolved in 1/2 glass of water, and the contents of one sachet - in 1 glass of warm water.

It is not recommended to take vitamin C on your own for more than 3 days in a row. A longer intake of Ascovit is possible after consulting a doctor.

Side effects

  • digestive system: irritation of the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract; with long-term therapy in high doses - vomiting, nausea, gastritis with high acidity, diarrhea, ulceration of the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • cardiovascular system: with long-term therapy in high doses - deterioration of capillary permeability (as a result - an increase in blood pressure, deterioration of tissue nutrition, the development of microangiopathies and increased blood clotting);
  • central nervous system: in case of prolonged use in doses of more than 1000 mg per day - insomnia, increased excitability of the central nervous system, headache;
  • urinary system: frequent urination (when taking more than 600 mg per day); with prolonged use in large doses - nephrolithiasis, hyperoxaluria, kidney damage;
  • allergic reactions: skin redness, rash;
  • other reactions: glucosuria, hyperglycemia;
  • laboratory data: hypokalemia, thrombocytosis, neutrophilic leukocytosis, erythropenia, hyperprothrombinemia.

Overdose

In case of an overdose of Ascovit, the patient feels nausea, cramping abdominal pain, diarrhea occurs, urination becomes more frequent, and flatulence appears. It is also possible to develop hypoglycemia and nephrolitasis, irritation of the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract. The patient develops insomnia, he becomes more irritable.

Symptomatic therapy is performed. Forced diuresis is effective.

special instructions

During the period of use of Askovit, it is recommended to control blood pressure, monitor the function of the pancreas and adrenal glands.

With an increased iron content in the body, the drug is used in minimal doses.

Ascorbic acid can interfere with the results of some laboratory tests (for example, blood levels of bilirubin and glucose, liver enzymes, and lactate dehydrogenase).

Vitamin C can aggravate the process in patients with intensively metastatic and rapidly proliferating tumors.

The sugar content in one orange-flavored sachet is 2.8396 g (0.24 XE), and in one hibiscus and green tea-flavored sachet - 2.758 g (0.23 XE).

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms

Ascovit does not affect the patient's psychomotor functions and does not impair the ability to drive a car or work with other mechanisms.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

Ascorbic acid is able to cross the placenta. The developing fetus can adapt to large doses of vitamin C taken by a pregnant woman, and after childbirth, the newborn may develop ascorbic disease, which is a consequence of drug withdrawal. That is why it is not recommended to take Ascovit in high doses during pregnancy, unless the benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risk to the fetus.

Ascorbic acid is secreted in breast milk, and therefore, during lactation, Askovit can be taken in doses not exceeding the daily requirement for vitamin C.

With impaired renal function

Long-term therapy in doses of more than 500 mg per day is contraindicated in patients with hyperoxaluria.

In case of impaired renal function and a history of urolithiasis, Ascovit vitamins are used with caution.

Drug interactions

Ascorbic acid reduces the effectiveness of indirect anticoagulants and heparin, increases plasma concentrations of tetracyclines and benzylpenicillin, reduces the concentration of oral contraceptives, improves absorption of iron in the intestine, slows down the excretion of various acids by the kidneys, increases the risk of crystalluria when used simultaneously with short-acting sulfonamides and salicylates.

Absorption and assimilation of Ascovit is reduced when taken together with acetylsalicylic acid, alkaline drinks, fresh juices and oral contraceptives.

Analogs

Ascovit analogs are Ascorbic acid, Asvitol, Ascorbic acid-UBF, Vitamin C, Rostvit, Vaginorm-C, Ascorbic acid (vitamin C), Setebe 500, Celaxon Vitamin C, Celaxon effect Vitamin C, Cevicap, etc.
