Artihol is a drug for the treatment of diseases of the biliary tract and liver.
Release form and composition
Film-coated tablets: round, biconvex, light brown (10 pcs. In a blister: 200 mg - in a cardboard box 3 blisters, 400 mg - in a cardboard box 4 blisters).
1 tablet contains:
- active substance: dry artichoke extract (Cynara scolymus) - 200 mg or 400 mg;
- auxiliary components: heavy magnesium oxide, corn starch, anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, talc;
- composition of the film shell: a mixture of Opadry 200 Brown - polyethylene glycol, polyvinyl alcohol, iron oxide red (E 172), titanium dioxide (E 171), sodium bicarbonate, iron oxide yellow (E 172), methacrylate copolymer (type C), iron oxide black (E 172), talc.
Pharmacological properties
The active ingredient of the drug is an extract of artichoke leaves, which contains biologically active substances that activate the excretion of salts of heavy metals, urea (through the kidneys) and other toxins from the body, including alkaloids and nitro compounds. The phenolic substance cynarin in combination with bioflavonoids, pheno acids and other compounds has a diuretic, choleretic and hepatoprotective effect. The composition of Artihol also contains vitamins B 1 and B 2, ascorbic acid, inulin, carotene, which contribute to the normalization of metabolic processes.
Long-term use of the drug provides an improvement in the functional state of the liver and a decrease in the level of total cholesterol in blood plasma.
Indications for use
- cirrhosis of the liver;
- chronic hepatitis;
- hypokinetic biliary dyskinesia;
- chronic form of non-calculous cholecystitis;
- nephritis is a chronic form;
- chronic renal failure.
Contraindications
- cholelithiasis;
- obstruction of the urinary tract;
- acute kidney disease;
- obstruction of the biliary tract;
- severe liver failure;
- age up to 6 years;
- confirmed hypersensitivity to plants of the Asteraceae family;
- individual intolerance to artichoke or other components of the drug.
Tablets are recommended to be used with caution for severe liver diseases, diseases that can cause the development of obstruction of the biliary tract.
During pregnancy or breastfeeding, taking the drug is indicated only on the basis of a doctor's conclusion that the expected therapeutic effect for the mother outweighs the potential threat to the fetus or child.
Instructions for the use of Artihol: method and dosage
Artihol tablets are taken orally before meals.
The recommended dosage regimen is 3 times a day:
- patients over 12 years old: 200-400 mg;
- children aged 6-12 years: 200 mg.
The duration of treatment is 14–21 days.

Side effects
With long-term use of high doses of Artihol, the following undesirable effects may develop: allergic reactions, nausea, heartburn, abdominal pain (upper part), diarrhea.
Overdose
Taking the drug in doses exceeding the prescribed dose can lead to an increase in adverse reactions. In this case, appropriate symptomatic therapy is recommended.
