Due to its taste and useful properties, gooseberries are widely eaten fresh, they are also used as an ingredient for making fruit drinks, compotes, preserves, wine and marmalade. Decoctions and infusions of gooseberry are used in folk medicine as an analgesic, tonic, laxative and diuretic.

Gooseberry juice, mixed with honey, fights inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract, and a decoction of bush leaves helps with prolonged menopause and uterine bleeding.

The gooseberry contains sugars, pectins, organic acids, tannins, iron, copper, phosphorus, carotene, vitamins of group B, C, P. Vitamin A helps to strengthen body cells, protect mucous membranes; vitamin B6 - an indispensable element for the treatment of nervous disorders, diseases of the cardiovascular system, normalization of protein metabolism; ascorbic acid enhances immunity, stimulates the brain and nervous system.

In addition, gooseberry berries contain a large amount of silicon, which strengthens the walls of blood vessels, thus preventing the appearance of varicose veins.

After the berries have given juice, the liquid must be squeezed out, and the pomace must be poured over again with water and allowed to stand for several days. Water and sugar are added to the resulting liquids of the first and second pressing (at the rate of 700-800 grams of sugar per 1.7-1.8 liters of water).

The tannins and acids included in the gooseberry in large quantities have a destructive effect on the gastrointestinal tract and intestinal motility in the presence of gastric and duodenal ulcers, colitis, enterocolitis in the acute stage, as well as intestinal dysbiosis.
