Benign neoplasms on the skin and mucous membranes - papillomas, or warts, are the result of the ingestion of the human papillomavirus (HPV). You can get rid of them in various ways. One of the fairly effective folk recipes for removing growths at home is the use of castor oil for papillomas. The tool is used both in pure form and as part of medicinal mixtures. Ease of use, affordable price, absence of contraindications allow us to recommend it for the removal of formations of different localization.
Castor oil is one of the popular treatments for papillomas.
What is castor oil
Medical castor oil, which is often called simply castor oil by the people, is obtained by cold pressing from the seeds of a medicinal and ornamental garden plant - Castor bean. The proportion of fatty oil in seeds is quite high and ranges from 40 to 60%. Additional processing - refining (purification from impurities), allows you to get a product used for medicinal purposes.
All parts of the plant, including the seed nucleus, contain ricin protein and a nitrogen-containing organic compound - ricinin. Both substances are toxic to humans. Since ricin is chemically unstable and decomposes during hydrolysis, hot steam is applied to the oil to break it down.
Castor oil has the following characteristics.
Property | Characteristic |
Consistency | Thick, viscous liquid that does not dry out or form a film |
Colour | Colorless or pale yellow |
Smell | Characteristic, poorly expressed |
Taste | Peculiar, unpleasant |
Composition | Triglyceride ricinoleic acid (up to 85%), oleic acid (up to 9%), linoleic acid (up to 3%), other saturated acids: stearic, palmitic, etc. (up to 3%) |

Contraindications
External use of castor oil has practically no restrictions. The only contraindication is the presence of individual intolerance to the components of the agent that make up its composition.
Precautions
Patients should not use castor bean seed oil if they have:
- damage to the integrity of the skin in the papilloma area;
- skin diseases at the site of localization of the growth.
It should be remembered that the external use of castor oil increases the absorption of substances applied to the skin at the same time. Therefore, before using medicinal mixtures, a sensitivity test must be carried out without fail, even if there is no allergy to individual components.
Useful Tips
To achieve the best result, the following recommendations are useful:
- the product should be applied to dry and clean skin;
- education does not need to be removed forcibly;
- it is advisable to use the oil a few days after the growth has disappeared.
When treating with castor oil, the healing process can be accelerated by applying an oil solution of vitamin A to the skin. This should be done between treatments. For 6-7 days after the end of the treatment course, you should not sunbathe, visit a solarium, use scrubs.
Comprehensive treatment
According to patient reviews, castor bean seed oil quite successfully fights small papillomas. Removing large warts with this therapy is much more difficult. But do not forget that for any size of formations, treatment should not be limited only to their destruction.
To date, there are no methods to achieve complete removal of HPV from the patient's body. Therefore, the main tasks of treatment:
- remove existing papillomas;
- prevent the emergence of new formations.
It is impossible to avoid relapse without systemic antiviral and immunostimulating effects. This is explained by the fact that in the human body the virus can exist in two forms: active and inactive. In the first variant, the virus multiplies, and clinical manifestations of the infection are observed, in the second, it "sleeps". Sleeping the virus is the key to successful systemic treatment.
Only the use of drugs that are active against HPV and increase the general resistance of the patient's body can lead to the disappearance of papillomas or a decrease in their size. Such treatment allows to reduce destructive procedures or to carry them out in a smaller volume.
Castor bean seeds, from which castor oil is obtained
You can use castor oil to get rid of papillomas at home, but you should not start using it without first consulting a specialist. The doctor must, first of all, confirm the benign nature of the neoplasms. For this purpose, dermatoscopy is mandatory: examination and evaluation of education using a special optical device - a dermatoscope. The second important task of a dermatologist is the competent prescription of antiviral drugs and agents for correcting immunity.
