Antifungal agent Ekodax

Ekodax is an antifungal drug.

The composition and form of release of Ekodaks

The drug is produced in the form of a 1% cream for external use, containing the active ingredient - econazole nitrate 10 mg / g.

Additional components: concentrated phosphoric acid, mineral oil, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sodium hydroxide, white soft paraffin, cetostearyl alcohol, chlorocresol, purified water, cetomacrogol 1000.

In 10 g aluminum tubes.

pharmachologic effect

Econazole is an imidazole derivative and has antifungal, bactericidal and fungicidal effects on the body. The mechanism of action of Ekodax is explained by the suppression of the biosynthesis of ergosterol, which regulates the permeability of the cell walls of microorganisms.

The use of Ekodax is active against molds, yeasts and dermatophytes (Microsporum audouini, Torulopsis, Rhodotorula, Trichophiton rubrum, Microsporum gypseum, Trichophiton mentagrophytes, Malassezia furfur, Microsporum canis, Trichophiton tonsillitis, and tonsillitis in relation to some of the tonsils). gram-positive bacteria (staphylococci, streptococci and Nocardia minutissima).

Indications for the use of Ekodax

According to the instructions, Ecodax is prescribed in the following cases:

  • dermatomycosis of the skin, in particular of the legs, including those complicated by superinfection (gram-positive bacteria);
  • onychomycosis;

Cream for external use Ekodax
Cream for external use Ekodax

According to the instructions, Ecodax is intended exclusively for external use.

Children over 16 years old and adults apply the drug to the affected skin with an even thin layer until completely absorbed. The drug is applied once a day - in the morning or in the evening.

Damp areas in the folds of the skin must first be dried with gauze.

When treating onychomycosis, the cream is applied once a day under an occlusive dressing.

The duration of therapy is no more than two weeks. The only exception is the treatment of highly keratinized areas. In this case, Ekodax treatment is allowed according to reviews for one and a half months.

Contraindications

According to the instructions, Ekodax is contraindicated:

  • under the age of 16;
  • with individual intolerance to one or more components of the drug.

Side effects of Ekodax

According to reviews, Ecodax is well tolerated by patients. Sometimes local reactions may occur (burning and itching, contact dermatitis, hyperemia and skin irritation, blisters, exfoliative skin changes, urticaria, skin atrophy, hypopigmentation). According to reviews, Ekodax causes hypersensitivity reactions and angioedema in isolated cases.

If side effects appear, drug treatment should be discontinued.

special instructions

When using the cream, do not allow it to get into the eyes.

If Ekodax therapy does not give results within two weeks, alternative methods should be considered.

The use of Ekodax during pregnancy and breastfeeding

It is not recommended to use the drug during pregnancy, as it is systemically absorbed.

There is no evidence that econazole passes into breast milk, therefore, Ekodax can be used during breastfeeding, but only on strict indications. Do not apply the drug to the breast and nipple area.

Drug interactions

With systemic action, econazole inhibits CYP 3A / 2C29. However, since Ekodax is poorly absorbed into the systemic circulation, significant interactions are unlikely to occur.

Caution should be exercised when using Ekodax in combination with oral anticoagulants (warfarin, acenocoumarol) and timely monitor blood coagulation.
