Halixol is a drug belonging to the group of mucolytic and expectorant drugs.

Pharmacological action of Halixol

Halixol syrup
Halixol syrup

The main active ingredient of the drug is ambroxol, a metabolite of bromhexine in active form, which belongs to the benzylamine group of mucolytic agents.

Halixol promotes sputum liquefaction due to its ability to enhance the production and increase the activity of hydrolytic enzymes that break down the bonds between the phlegm elements (mucopolysaccharides).

In addition, the use of Halixol reduces the viscosity and adhesive properties of sputum due to the drug's ability to stimulate serous cells of the glands and bronchial mucosa and normalize the ratio of serous and mucous components of sputum.

Halixol is also able to increase mucociliary transport, which increases the motor activity of the ciliated epithelium.

The drug helps to reduce the spastic hyperreactivity of the bronchi without causing excessive secretion, and also increases the production of surfactant.

The effect of taking Halixol is noticeable within 30 minutes after application.
