Benzyl benzoate is a drug used to treat scabies and other skin infections of parasitic origin.

The main active ingredient of the drug is consonant with its international name - Benzyl benzoate.

The form of release of the drug is an emulsion (vials of 10% or 20% in 50, 100 or 200 ml) or ointment 10% or 20% for external use (25, 30, 40, 50 and 75 g in cans and 25, 39, 50 g in tuba).

Pharmacological properties of Benzyl benzoate

According to the instructions, Benzyl benzoate belongs to the group of antiparasitic medicines. The main substance penetrates deep into the skin and exhibits a toxic effect on itch mites and their larvae, head and pubic lice. The emulsion and ointment of Benzyl benzoate are not absorbed into the bloodstream, therefore, it exhibits only local action and does not affect the functioning of the body.

Shake the benzyl benzoate emulsion before use. Apply a small amount of the liquid to the skin of the body, except for the head, neck and face. The emulsion is applied from top to bottom: starting with the skin of the hands, trunk and, finally, the lower extremities.

The treatment is carried out or daily for 2 days (rub in the drug for 10 minutes with a break until the skin dries). Each time after processing the skin, change the bed linen, and after washing the hands, the skin is additionally treated.

If the disease continues or progresses, then on the 3rd day the course is lengthened (by 3 days) or after 3 days a repeated 2-day course is prescribed.

The second method of treatment with benzyl benzoate emulsion is carried out for 6 days. 100 g of suspension is rubbed in once on the first and fourth day of the course. Before each rubbing in, thoroughly cleanse the skin. Linen is changed on the 1st and 6th day of treatment.

Ointment

For children from 3 years old, benzyl benzoate ointment is rubbed into the scalp and face, but carefully so that it does not get into the eyes. For adults, the drug is applied after bathing at night on the entire skin, except for the scalp and face. After that, hands are not washed until morning.
