Shigellvac is a vaccine for the prevention of dysentery.
Release form and composition
Dosage form - a solution for intramuscular and subcutaneous administration: transparent or slightly opalescent colorless liquid with a phenol smell [1 dose (0.5 ml) in ampoules, 5 or 10 ampoules in a pack or blister pack; 20 doses (10 ml) in vials].
The active ingredient of the vaccine is a polysaccharide solution extracted from the culture of Shigella sonnei strain No. 5063, purified by enzymatic and physicochemical methods, in 1 inoculation dose - 0.05 mg.
Auxiliary components: sodium dihydrogen phosphate, sodium hydrogen phosphate, sodium chloride, and phenol as a preservative (no more than 0.75 mg).

After administration, the Shigellvac vaccine promotes the rapid appearance in the blood of vaccinated specific antibodies, which rapidly build up and, after 2-3 weeks, provide specific resistance to Shigella sonnei infection, which lasts for 1 year.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Shigellvak is used to prevent Zonne dysentery in adults and children from 3 years old.
Routinely, preventive vaccination is recommended for the following categories of the population:
- workers of bacteriological laboratories and infectious diseases hospitals;
- persons employed in the field of public catering, workers of public utilities and enterprises for the production of food products;
- children attending children's institutions and leaving for health camps.
For epidemic indications, immunization is recommended in the following cases:
- before the seasonal rise in the incidence of dysentery in the Sonne;
- in case of complication of the epidemiological situation or the threat of its occurrence (in case of natural disasters, major accidents on water supply or sewer networks, etc.);
- when in the epidemiological foci of this infection;
- when traveling to regions with a high incidence of Sonne dysentery.
Contraindications
- acute diseases (including infectious diseases) or exacerbation of chronic diseases (vaccination is possible no earlier than 1 month after recovery or remission);
- children under 3 years old;
- pregnancy;
- unusual and strong reactions to previous administration of Shigellvac.
Instructions for the use of Shigellvak: method and dosage
Vaccinations are given once, 1 dose (0.5 ml), regardless of the patient's age.
The Shigellvac vaccine is injected deep under the skin or into the muscle on the outer surface of the upper third of the shoulder.
If necessary, repeat vaccinations are carried out no more than once a year at the same dose.
Immediately before the introduction, a health worker must assess the integrity of the ampoule and packaging and the state of the physical properties of the vaccine, check the expiration date of the drug.
Opening an ampoule or vial and the procedure for introducing a solution should be carried out in compliance with the rules of antiseptics and asepsis. Opened ampoules / vials cannot be stored.
The doctor registers the vaccination carried out in the established registration forms indicating the name of the vaccine, batch number, dose, manufacturer, date of immunization, as well as reactions to the vaccine, if any.
Side effects
The Shigellvac vaccine is generally well tolerated. Reactions are rare and are rated as mild. May appear during the first days after vaccination. They are usually expressed by redness and soreness at the injection site, as well as headache and fever (up to 37.6 ° C in 3-5% of cases in the first 24-48 hours).

Vaccination with Shigellvac can be done on the same day with other prophylactic vaccinations with inactivated vaccines or not earlier than one month after another vaccination.
