Latin name: Proviron
ATX code: G03BB01
Active ingredient: mesterolone (mesterolone)
Manufacturer: Bayer Weimar GmbH & Co. KG (Bayer Weimar GmbH und Co. KG) (Germany)
Description and photo update: 2019-20-08
Proviron is an androgenic agent that compensates for the lack of production of androgens (male sex hormones), has a stimulating effect on the development of male secondary sexual characteristics and genitals, improves potency and libido, exhibits anabolic properties, stimulates erythropoiesis.
Release form and composition
Dosage form - tablets (20 pcs. In bottles, 1 bottle per package).
The active substance is mesterolone, its content in 1 tablet is 25 mg.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
The active component of Proviron, mesterolone, compensates for the lack of endogenous androgens due to a decrease in their production with age or for other reasons.
Taking the recommended therapeutic doses of the drug has the following effect on the male body:
- eliminates or softens the weakened working capacity, irritability, fatigue, weakening of memory and concentration of attention, impaired libido, depressive conditions, sleep disorders, psycho-vegetative disorders, caused by a deficiency of male sex hormones;
- eliminates potency disorders caused by androgen deficiency; if erectile dysfunction is caused by other reasons, Proviron is recommended to be used as an additional drug as part of complex therapy;
- stimulates the growth, development and function of organs dependent on male sex hormones; with a lack of androgens before the end of puberty, mesterolone promotes the development of external (secondary) sexual characteristics in patients; after reaching the age of puberty, Proviron helps to eliminate the loss of endocrine function;
- promotes an increase / normalization of the quantitative and qualitative composition of the ejaculate in infertility caused by oligozoospermia and insufficiency of interstitial Leydig cells; provides an increase in the level of fructose in the cytoplasm of sperm cells, increasing the likelihood of fertilization.
Pharmacokinetics
- absorption: as a result of oral administration of doses in the range of 25-100 mg, meterolone is absorbed quickly and almost completely; its absolute bioavailability is ~ 3%; the maximum level (C max) in the blood serum after 1.6 ± 0.6 hours is 3.1 ± 1.1 ng / ml, after which the serum concentration of the drug decreases;
- distribution: up to 98% of the substance binds to serum proteins, of which up to 40% with albumin, up to 58% with sex steroid binding globulin (SHBG);
- metabolism: meterolone is rapidly metabolized, serum clearance is 4.4 ± 1.6 ml × min -1 × kg -1; the main metabolite is 1α-methyl-androsterone, the other metabolite (making up about 3% of metabolites excreted by the kidneys) is 1α-methyl-5α-androstane-3α, 17β-diol. There was no metabolic conversion of mesterolone to estrogens or corticosteroids;
- excretion: Mesterolone is practically not excreted in an unchanged state. Up to 80% of its dose in the form of metabolites is excreted by the kidneys (55–70% in the conjugated form of 1α-methyl-androsterone) and about 13% with feces; in one week, up to 93% of the taken drug is excreted, while half of the indicated dose is excreted by the kidneys during the day. T 1/2 (terminal half-life) is 12-13 hours.
With daily intake of Proviron, its serum concentration increases by 30%.
