Release form and composition
The dosage form is a gel for external use, from yellow to yellow-green in color, transparent, homogeneous (in a carton pack 1 aluminum tube containing 30, 35, 40, 45 or 50 g of gel, and instructions for the use of Troxerutin DS).
Composition of 100 mg gel:
- active substance: troxerutin - 2 g;
- auxiliary components: water - 96.45 g; benzalkonium chloride solution - 0.2 g; disodium edetate - 0.05 g; trolamine - 0.7 g; carbomer - 0.6 g.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Troxerutin is a flavonoid (a group of rutin derivatives). It is characterized by P-vitamin activity, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, decongestant, venoprotective and venotonic effects.
The substance increases the tone and reduces the permeability and fragility of capillaries, stabilizes the hyaluronic acid of cell membranes, blocks hyaluronidase and takes part in redox processes. When it is used, diapedesis of blood cells and exudation of the liquid part of the plasma decreases, the density of the vascular wall increases and inflammation in it decreases, which limits the adhesion of platelets to its surface.
The drug has a wide range of therapeutic effects, non-toxic.
Pharmacokinetics
When applied externally, Troxerutin quickly penetrates the epidermis, after half an hour it is noted in the dermis, and after 2-5 hours - in the subcutaneous fatty tissue.
Indications for use
- varicose dermatitis;
- swelling of the ankles, feeling of heaviness and pain in the legs;
- pain and swelling due to chronic venous insufficiency;
- paresthesia, swelling, convulsions, fatigue;
- acute superficial periphlebitis and thrombophlebitis;
- pain and swelling of a traumatic nature, including against the background of muscle bruises, sprains or damage to the ligaments.
Contraindications
- violation of the integrity of the skin;
- I trimester of pregnancy;
- established hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Gel Troxerutin DS 2% is intended for external use.
A single dose should be applied to the affected area with light massaging movements from bottom to top until the drug is completely absorbed. The procedure is carried out in the morning and evening.
If you skip the next application of the drug, it can be done at any time, observing the interval between applications of at least 10-12 hours.
If necessary, the gel can be used under elastic stockings or bandages.
The duration of therapy varies from 14 days to 1–2 months. The course of treatment can be repeated 2-3 times a year if the disease recurs.
Side effects
During therapy, skin redness, rash and itching are rarely noted. These adverse events go away on their own after drug withdrawal.
Overdose
Since the drug is intended for external use, there is no danger of overdose.
If the patient accidentally swallowed a large amount of the gel inside, it is necessary to rinse the mouth and stomach, carry out symptomatic treatment (if necessary).

It is important not to allow the drug to enter the eyes, mucous membranes and open wounds.
In chronic venous insufficiency, Troxerutin DS is prescribed both at the initial and late stages of pathology.
The drug in patients with conditions characterized by increased vascular permeability, including allergic reactions, measles, influenza and scarlet fever, is used in combination with ascorbic acid in order to enhance its effect.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Gel Troxerutin DS 2% is not prescribed in the first trimester of pregnancy. There are no data on its undesirable effect on the fetus and newborns.
In the II and III trimester of pregnancy, as well as during breastfeeding, the drug can be used.

With topical application of troxerutin, interaction with other drugs / preparations has not been established.
