Release form and composition
The drug is produced in the form of liniment: white or white with a cream shade of color, with a characteristic odor (25, 30, 35 or 50 g in an aluminum tube, 30 g in a polyethylene laminate tube, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 or 50 g in a dark glass jar, in a cardboard box 1 tube or jar and instructions for the use of Soluble Streptocide).
1 g of liniment contains:
- active ingredient (depending on the manufacturer): sodium mesulfamide or sodium sulfanilamide (soluble streptocide) - 0.05 g (in terms of 100% substance);
- additional components: purified water, emulsifier No. 1 (Lanette SX, NEOWAX SX), glycerol (distilled glycerin).
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Liniment Streptocid soluble is an antimicrobial bacteriostatic drug that is part of the sulfonamides group. The mechanism of action of the agent is determined by competitive antagonism with para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), suppression of the activity of the enzyme dihydropteroate synthetase, disruption of the production of tetrahydrofolic acid, which is necessary for the formation of purines and pyrimidines.
The drug demonstrates activity against Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Including S. pyogenes, S. pneumoniae, Brucella spp., Legionella spp.; Escherichia coli, Shigella spp., Clostridium perfringens, Vibrio cholerae, Bacillus anthracis, Yersinia pestis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Actinomyces israelii, Toxoplasma gondii, Chlamydia spp.; additionally for sodium sulfonamide - Klebsiella spp., Proteus spp., Salmonella spp., Serratia spp., Nocardia asteroids, Calymmatobacterium granulomatis.
When treating the skin, the drug helps to accelerate the epithelialization of erosions and wound healing.
Indications for use
The drug is recommended for use in the complex therapy of the following lesions:
- infected wounds of various etiologies;
- boils, carbuncles, folliculitis;
- infected burns (I – II degree);
- acne vulgaris;
- impetigo;
- erysipelas and other purulent-inflammatory skin lesions.
Contraindications
Absolute:
- porphyria;
- azotemia;
- renal and / or hepatic impairment;
- anemia;
- congenital deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase;
- pregnancy and lactation;
- hypersensitivity to any of the constituents of the drug or other sulfonamides.
Additional contraindications for sodium mesulfamide:
- diseases of the hematopoietic system;
- chronic heart failure (CHF);
- oppression of bone marrow hematopoiesis;
- nephritis, nephrosis;
- thyrotoxicosis.
With extreme caution, it is required to use the drug in children under the age of three months.
Soluble streptocide, instructions for use: method and dosage
Soluble streptocide is used externally.
Liniment is recommended to be applied in a thin layer directly to the affected area of the skin or on a gauze pad, which is applied to the problem area of the skin. Dressings are required in 1–2 days.
In adults, in the presence of a large area of damage, the daily dose of the drug in terms of the active substance should not be higher than 6 g, which corresponds to 120 g of liniment. In children, in the case of a large area of skin lesions, the maximum daily dose of the drug should be (depending on the patient's age):
- up to 1 year - 0.6 g (12 g of liniment);
- from 1 to 5 years - 1.8 g (36 g of liniment);
- from 5 to 12 years old - 3 g (60 g liniment).
The course of therapy can vary from 10 to 14 days.
Side effects
During the period of drug therapy, the development of allergic reactions can be observed. With prolonged use of high doses of soluble streptocid liniment, systemic effects such as vomiting, nausea, headache, dizziness, dyspepsia, crystalluria, leukopenia, agranulocytosis may occur; additionally for sodium mesulfamide - cyanosis, thyrotoxicosis.
Overdose
Against the background of an overdose of sodium mesulfamide, the following symptoms may develop: dizziness, drowsiness, headache, dyspepsia, vomiting, nausea, intestinal colic, fever, visual impairment, crystalluria, agranulocytosis, leukopenia, fainting, depression, confusion, hematuria. With prolonged overdose, jaundice, thrombocytopenia, megaloblastic anemia may develop.
When these violations occur, it is recommended to drink plenty of fluids. If the drug was accidentally taken orally, gastric lavage is performed.
There are no data on cases of overdose of the drug with the active ingredient sodium sulfonamide.

If necessary, oral antimicrobial agents are prescribed simultaneously with the use of liniment.
If during the period of therapy there are allergic reactions, it is necessary to cancel Soluble Streptocide and carry out the appropriate treatment.
During treatment with the drug, an abundant alkaline drink is recommended.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms
Soluble streptocide does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and other complex equipment, however, if dizziness develops during treatment, these types of work should be abandoned.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
The drug is contraindicated during pregnancy. If the use of the product is necessary during lactation, the child should be transferred to artificial feeding.
Pediatric use
In children under three months of age, liniment must be used with extreme caution.
With impaired renal function
In the presence of renal failure or nephritis, nephrosis (for mesulfamide), the use of the drug is contraindicated.
For violations of liver function
In the presence of liver failure, the use of Soluble Streptocide is contraindicated.
Drug interactions
With the combined use of liniment with myelotoxic drugs, the risk of increased severity of the drug's hematotoxicity is aggravated.
