Stopangin is a drug of analgesic, antiseptic, enveloping and antifungal action for local use.
Release form and composition
- spray for topical application 0.2%: a transparent liquid, colorless or almost colorless, with a characteristic specific odor (30 ml each in polyethylene or polyethylene terephthalate bottles, one bottle in a cardboard box complete with a spray and an applicator; 45 ml each vials, in a cardboard box one bottle with a mechanical spray);
- solution for topical application 0.1%: transparent light red liquid with a specific odor; let's say a small sediment, which does not affect the effectiveness of the drug (100 ml in dark glass bottles, in a cardboard box one bottle with a measuring cap included).
Composition of 30 ml spray:
- active substance: hexetidine - 57.7 mg;
- auxiliary components: levomenthol, methyl salicylate, orange blossom essential oil, peppermint essential oil, anise essential oil, sassafras essential oil, eucalyptus essential oil, 85% glycerol, sodium saccharinate monohydrate, 96% ethanol.
Composition of 100 ml solution:
- active substance: hexetidine - 100 mg;
- auxiliary components: levomenthol, methyl salicylate, peppermint essential oil, aniseed essential oil, sassafras essential oil, eucalyptus essential oil, clove oil, polysorbate 60, sodium saccharinate monohydrate, 96% ethanol, crimson dye (Ponso 4R), citric acid monohydrate peeled.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
The active component of Stopangin - hexetidine - has antibacterial, fungicidal and antiviral properties. It also has a slight enveloping and anesthetic effect. The antibacterial effect of the drug is due to the fact that hexetidine replaces thiamine, which is responsible for the multiplication of pathogenic bacteria in the body. Also, this compound inhibits the production of substances that make up the protective shell of fungi.
Methyl salicylate inhibits the action of the enzyme cyclooxygenase, increasing blood flow to the affected areas and accelerating their regeneration. It also has a local anti-inflammatory and irritant effect.
The essential oils that make up Stopangin are characterized by a mild anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect, and they help to eliminate the feeling of discomfort during coughing attacks.
The effect of the drug on the body lasts for 11 hours. All its components are excreted with saliva and do not enter the systemic circulation, being evenly distributed over the mucous membranes of the pharynx and oral cavity.
Indications for use
- infectious and inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity and larynx (stomatitis, glossitis, bleeding gums, aphthous oral ulcers, pharyngitis, periodontitis, tonsillitis, including Vincent's angina);
- oral cavity and larynx candidiasis before surgical interventions in the larynx and oral cavity, as well as after surgery;
- prevention of infection of the alveoli after tooth extraction surgery;
- trauma and wounds to the mouth and larynx;
- prevention of superinfection with tumors (destructive) of the oral cavity and larynx;
- oral hygiene (as a deodorant to eliminate bad breath).
Contraindications
- atrophic pharyngitis;
- pregnancy period (first trimester);
- children under 6 (for solution) or up to 8 (for spray) years;
- hypersensitivity to the main or auxiliary ingredients of the drug.
Instructions for the use of Stopangin: method and dosage
Topical spray
Stopangin spray is used twice a day (more frequent use is possible only as directed by a doctor). The drug is sprayed after a meal or between meals.
Before the procedure, you must remove the protective cap from the bottle and attach the supplied applicator. Then press the device 2-3 times for the drug to enter the nebulizer. Hold your breath and spray the affected area. After the procedure, rinse the applicator with warm water.
The course of treatment is 5-7 days.
Topical solution
The preparation in the form of a topical solution is used undiluted. A single dose is 10-15 ml (one dessert or tablespoon). Rinsing the mouth is carried out twice a day for at least 30 seconds, after meals or in between meals. If rinsing is not possible for some reason, you can use a cotton swab on a stick, with which you lubricate the oral mucosa. This method is advisable to use in children who, due to their age, do not know how to properly rinse the mouth and can swallow the solution.
The course of treatment is 5-7 days.
Side effects
Stopangin can cause local side reactions, for example, a burning sensation in the oral mucosa (it goes away on its own, does not require treatment).
In exceptional cases (as a rule, in patients with hypersensitivity), allergic reactions may occur. If the solution is accidentally swallowed during rinsing, nausea is possible, which goes away spontaneously.
If unusual adverse reactions appear, it is recommended to consult with your doctor, who will decide whether to continue using the drug.
Overdose
To date, no cases of overdose have been reported.

With an increase in body temperature, deterioration of the condition, ineffectiveness of therapy, overdose, as well as in cases where the use of other drugs is required simultaneously with Stopangin, it is necessary to consult a doctor.
It is not recommended to inhale the spray; contact with the eyes should be avoided.
For children, Stopangin is prescribed only if the child knows how to hold his breath and does not resist the applicator in the mouth (for a spray) and there is no danger of swallowing the agent (for a solution).
If a child accidentally swallows the drug, see a doctor.
Stopangin spray contains 62% ethanol, solution - 4%.
The drug should not be used for more than 5-7 days without consulting your doctor.
Within 30 minutes after using the product, you must refrain from driving and other work associated with increased concentration.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
According to the instructions, Stopangin is prohibited from prescribing in the first trimester of pregnancy. In the II and III trimesters, as well as during breastfeeding, drug treatment is allowed according to indications.

There is no information on drug interactions between Stopangin and other drugs.
