Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Mebeverin, being a myotropic antispasmodic, directly affects the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract (gastrointestinal tract), mainly the large intestine; eliminates spasms without disturbing normal intestinal motility, and does not have an anticholinergic effect.
Pharmacokinetics
When administered orally, mebeverin undergoes presystemic elimination by hydrolysis, as a result of which it is not detected in plasma. Metabolism of the substance occurs in the liver to the formation of mebeverine alcohol and veratric acid. Mebeverin is excreted in the form of metabolites mainly by the kidneys, in small quantities with bile through the liver. Due to the presence of a prolonged release mechanism in the Sparex capsules, no significant cumulation of the drug is observed even after repeated administration.
Indications for use
For adult patients, the drug is recommended to be taken to relieve gastrointestinal spasms, including those caused by organic diseases, as well as with intestinal / biliary colic and irritable bowel syndrome.
For children over 12 years of age, Sparex is prescribed to relieve abdominal pain in functional gastrointestinal disorders.
