Spazgel is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent for topical use.

Release form and composition

Dosage form - gel for external use 2.5%: almost transparent gel mass, colorless or with a yellowish tinge, with a specific odor; the presence of opalescence is allowed (in a cardboard box 1 aluminum tube containing 30 or 50 g of gel, and instructions for using Spazgel).

Composition of 100 g gel:

  • active substance: ketoprofen - 2.5 g;
  • auxiliary components: purified water - 48.1 g; ethanol (ethyl alcohol 95%) - 40 g; polyester PE 240 - 5 g; lavender oil - 0.1 g; trometamol - 1.7 g; nipagin (methyl parahydroxybenzoate) - 0.1 g; carbomer (carbopol) 940/980 - 2.5 g.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

In the treatment of pathologies of lymph nodes, lymphatic vessels, veins, skin, muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints, Spazgel has a local anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antiexudative effect.

In cases of articular syndrome, the use of the gel helps to relieve pain during movement and at rest, reduce joint swelling and morning stiffness.

The mechanism of action of the drug is associated with the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.

Pharmacokinetics

When used topically, ketoprofen (in the form of a gel) is absorbed very slowly and practically does not accumulate in the body.

The bioavailability of the drug is about 5%. The concentration of the substance in the blood after its administration in a dose of 50 to 150 mg after 5-8 hours reaches a value of 0.08 to 0.15 μg per 1 ml.

Indications for use

  • pathologies of the musculoskeletal system: psoriatic arthritis, sciatica, bursitis, lumbago, inflammatory lesions of tendons and ligaments, sciatica, osteochondrosis with radicular syndrome, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, articular syndrome against a background of exacerbation of gout;
  • muscle pains of a rheumatic and non-rheumatic nature;
  • post-traumatic inflammation of soft tissues, injuries of the musculoskeletal system, including sports.

Contraindications

Absolute:

  • infected wounds, abrasions, eczema, weeping dermatoses;
  • III trimester of pregnancy;
  • period of breastfeeding;
  • children under 6 years of age;
  • individual intolerance to the components of the drug and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Relative (Spazgel gel is prescribed under medical supervision):

  • chronic heart failure;
  • severe violations of liver and kidney function;
  • erosive and ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • hepatic porphyria;
  • I and II trimester of pregnancy;
  • childhood.

Spazgel, instructions for use: method and dosage

Spazgel gel is intended for external use.

Recommended dosage: a small amount of gel (strip from 3 to 5 cm) is applied in a thin layer to the skin and rubbed lightly. The frequency of application of the drug is 2-3 times a day.

In children aged 6 to 12 years, a strip of up to 3 cm of gel is applied no more than 2 times a day.

Without consulting a doctor, the duration of Spazgel therapy should not exceed 14 days.

Side effects

  • local reactions: eczema, purpura, bullous dermatitis, cutaneous exanthema, photodermatitis, skin hyperemia, allergic dermatitis;
  • systemic reactions: stomatitis, photosensitivity, generalized skin rash, edema, urticaria.

Overdose

Since the absorption of the active substance of the drug is low, overdose is almost impossible with its external use. Patients who accidentally swallow a large amount of the drug (more than 20 g) may experience side effects characteristic of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

If the drug is accidentally swallowed, gastric lavage is performed and activated charcoal is prescribed.

It is important to prevent accidental contact of the gel on inflamed skin, open wounds, mucous membranes and eyes.

After applying the drug, it is recommended to wash your hands immediately.

Spazgel is not intended for use with airtight (occlusive) dressings.

It should be borne in mind that with prolonged use of the gel in large quantities, the occurrence of undesirable phenomena characteristic of the systemic use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs cannot be ruled out.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

Spazgel should not be used during the third trimester of pregnancy and during lactation.

With care, under medical supervision, the gel is used in the I and II trimester of pregnancy.

Pediatric use

The drug is not prescribed for pediatric patients under 6 years of age.

With impaired renal function

Patients with severe renal impairment Spazgel is prescribed with caution.

For violations of liver function

With hepatic porphyria and severe liver dysfunction, the use of the drug requires medical supervision.
