Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Rennie is an antacid drug. Its active ingredients - calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate - provide fast and long-term neutralization of excess gastric acid hydrochloric acid, which has a protective effect on the gastric mucosa.

The therapeutic effect is achieved in 3-5 minutes, which is due to the high calcium content and good solubility of the tablets.

Pharmacokinetics

As a result of the interaction of active components with gastric juice, the formation of soluble magnesium and calcium salts occurs in the stomach. The degree of absorption of magnesium and calcium from these compounds depends on the dose. The maximum values of the indicator: calcium - 10%, magnesium - 15-20%.

The absorbed calcium and magnesium in small amounts are excreted by the kidneys. Insoluble compounds are formed from soluble salts in the intestine, which are subsequently excreted in the feces.

Plasma concentrations of magnesium and calcium may increase in patients with impaired renal function.

Indications for use

Rennie is prescribed for symptoms associated with reflux esophagitis and increased acidity of gastric juice, namely:

  • Heartburn;
  • Feeling of heaviness or fullness in the epigastric region;
  • Recurrent pain in the stomach;
  • Dyspeptic phenomena, including conditions associated with the intake of drugs, dietary errors, abuse of coffee, alcohol, nicotine;
  • Dyspepsia of pregnant women;
  • Sour belching.

Contraindications

  • Nephrocalcinosis;
  • Hypercalcemia;
  • Renal failure in severe course;
  • Hypophosphatemia;
  • Age under 12;
  • Fructose intolerance, isomaltase / sucrase deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption (for chewable tablets / chewable tablets (cooling taste));
  • The presence of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Each chewable tablet / chewable tablet (orange) / chewable tablet (cooling flavor) contains 475 mg of sucrose; in a sugar-free tablet (mint) / sugar-free chewing tablet (cooling taste) - 400 mg of sorbitol (may be used in diabetes mellitus).
