Xylometazoline-SOLOpharm is a decongestant drug, alpha-adrenergic agonist.

Release form and composition

Dosage forms:

  • nasal drops: clear liquid without color or light yellow (10 or 15 ml in a bottle, 1 bottle in a cardboard box);
  • dosed nasal spray: clear liquid without color or light yellow (10 or 15 ml in a bottle, 1 bottle in a cardboard box).

Composition of 1 ml drops of Xylometazoline-SOLOpharm 0.05 / 0.1%:

  • active substance: xylometazoline hydrochloride - 0.5 / 1 mg;
  • auxiliary components: benzalkonium chloride, disodium edetate dihydrate (Trilon B), sodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, sodium chloride, water for injection.

Composition of 1 dose of Xylometazoline-SOLOpharm 35/140 mcg / dose spray:

  • active substance: xylometazoline hydrochloride - 35/140 mcg;

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Xylometazoline is a local vasoconstrictor drug with an α2-adrenomimetic effect. In a short time and for a long time, it relieves swelling and hyperemia of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity, restoring nasal breathing in case of rhinitis. When used in recommended doses, xylometazoline does not cause irritation and hyperemia of the mucous membrane. The action of the drug lasts up to 12 hours.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied topically, xylometazoline is practically not absorbed. Its plasma concentration remains below the detection limit.

Indications for use

  • rhinitis caused by acute respiratory infections;
  • acute allergic rhinitis;
  • otitis media;
  • eustachitis;
  • hay fever;
  • preparation for diagnostic procedures in the nasal cavity.

Contraindications

Absolute contraindications:

  • arterial hypertension;
  • glaucoma;
  • severe atherosclerosis;
  • tachycardia;
  • hyperthyroidism;
  • atrophic rhinitis;
  • surgical operations on the meninges (in history);
  • condition after transsphenoidal hypophysectomy;
  • combined use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants (the interval should be at least 2 weeks);
  • age up to 2 years (for drops of 0.05% and spray 35 mcg / dose), up to 6 years (for drops of 0.1% and spray 140 mcg / dose);
  • pregnancy;
  • increased sensitivity to the components of the drug.

Relative contraindications:

  • diabetes;
  • ischemic heart disease (angina pectoris);
  • hyperplasia of the prostate;
  • pheochromocytoma;
  • hypersensitivity to adrenergic drugs (insomnia, dizziness, arrhythmia, tremor, increased blood pressure);
  • lactation period.

Instructions for the use of Xylometazoline-SOLOpharm: method and dosage

Xylometazoline-SOLOpharm is used intranasally, in each nasal passage.

Nasal drops

A 0.05% solution is intended for children 2–6 years old: 1–2 drops, 1–2 times a day.

A 0.1% solution is intended for children over 6 years old and adults: 2-3 drops 2-3 times a day.

Do not use Xylometazoline-SOLOpharm drops more than 3 times a day. The duration of use should not exceed 7 days.

Nasal spray

Spray 35 mcg / dose is intended for children 2–6 years old: 1 injection no more than 3 times a day.

Spray 140 mcg / dose is intended for children over 6 years old and adults: 1 injection (if necessary, it is possible to increase the dose), no more than 3 times a day.

In the case when the condition does not improve within 3 days, or when the symptoms intensify, a doctor's consultation is required. The duration of the drug use without a doctor's prescription should not exceed 7 days. If, against the background of prolonged use of Xylometazoline-SOLOpharm spray, the feeling of nasal congestion reappears or worsens, the drug should be discontinued and a doctor should be consulted.

Side effects

  • sneezing;
  • tingling sensation;
  • increased secretion of discharge from the nose;
  • allergic reactions;

Overdose
