Pharmacodynamics
Niketamide is an analeptic drug with a mixed effect. Its mechanism of action consists in both central and peripheral effects on the nervous system. The central mechanism is due to a direct effect on the vasomotor center, localized in the medulla oblongata, which is expressed in its excitation and the associated increase in blood pressure (the effect is especially pronounced with the initial inhibition of the functioning of this center).
The peripheral effect is associated with the activation of the chemoreceptors of the carotid sinus, which provokes an increase in the frequency and depth of respiratory movements. Nicetamide does not directly affect the work of the cardiovascular system.
Pharmacokinetics
Nicetamide is highly absorbed, and the extent of absorption is not determined by administration. The substance is rapidly metabolized in the liver, forming pharmacologically inactive metabolites, which are excreted mainly in the urine.
