Clomid is an antiestrogenic agent.
Release form and composition
Dosage form - tablets (10 pcs. In blisters, in a box of 10 blisters).
The active ingredient is clomiphene citrate, in 1 tablet - 50 mg.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Clomid is a non-steroidal antiestrogenic drug.
Stimulates the ovulation process, while the exact mechanism of action remains unclear. It is assumed that the active substance of the drug, clomiphene, blocks estrogen receptors in the ovaries and hypothalamus and, through feedback, enhances the synthesis of gonadotropic hormones (luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone) by the pituitary gland. In turn, this has a stimulating effect on the maturation and endocrine activity of the follicle in the ovary, and then on the formation and functioning of the corpus luteum.
Pharmacokinetics
After oral administration, clomiphene is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. At the end of 5-day therapy, its cumulative excretion is 50% of the dose taken (42.2% - with feces, 7.8% - with urine). In the period from the 31st to the 35th day of therapy, 0.73% of the dose of the drug is excreted daily with feces and urine, and from the 42nd to 45th day of therapy - 0.54% each.
Indications for use
The use of the drug is indicated for the stimulation of ovulation in infertility against the background of secondary hypofunction of the ovaries, mainly due to disorders of the hypothalamic-pituitary system.
Contraindications
- Uterine bleeding of unknown etiology;
- Severe renal and / or hepatic impairment;
- Ovarian cyst;
