Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Miramistin is a new generation antiseptic with a wide spectrum of antimicrobial activity, including effective against hospital strains that are resistant to antibiotics.

The use of Miramistin provides a good result in the prevention of infection of burn surfaces and wounds. The solution activates the regeneration of damaged tissues; at the site of application stimulates protective reactions, enhancing the absorption and digestion functions of phagocytes; potentiates the function of the mononuclear phagocyte system; has a pronounced hyperosmolar effect, thereby stopping wound and perifocal inflammation, absorbing purulent exudate and promoting the formation of dry scab. Does not damage viable skin cells and granulation tissue, does not inhibit epithelialization of the edge sections of the wound.

Types of pharmacological activity of Miramistin:

  • bactericidal (pronounced): against gram-positive bacteria, for example, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp. and others, in relation to gram-negative bacteria, for example, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella spp. and others, in relation to aerobes and anaerobes isolated in the form of microbial associations and monocultures, including hospital strains, multi-resistant to antibiotics;
  • antimycotic: against ascomycetes of the genus Penicillium and the genus Aspergillus; yeasts such as Rhodotorula rubra, Torulopsis glabrata, and yeasts such as Candida tropicalis, Candida albicans, Candida krusei, Malassezia furfur (Pityrosporum orbiculare); dermatophytes, for example, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton verrucosum, Trichophyton schoenleinii, Trichophyton violacent, Epidermophyton floccosum, Epidermophyton Kaufman-Wolf, Microsporum canis, Microsporum gypseum; in relation to other pathogenic fungi isolated in the form of microbial associations and monocultures, including fungal microflora resistant to chemotherapeutic agents;
  • antiviral: against complex viruses such as HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), herpes viruses, etc.

Miramistin is also effective against sexually transmitted pathogens: Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia spp., Trichomonas vaginalis, Treponema spp. and etc.

The solution does not have a local irritating effect and does not possess allergenic properties.

Provided that it is applied topically, Miramistin is not absorbed through the mucous membranes and skin, as a result of which it does not have a systemic effect on the human body.
