Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Mexiprim belongs to heteroaromatic antioxidants. Has a wide range of pharmacological activity: exhibits anxiolytic effect, not accompanied by muscle relaxant effect; increases the body's resistance to stress; has a nootropic effect; prevents and reduces memory and learning impairments arising from exposure to various pathogenic elements and aging; has an anticonvulsant effect; exhibits antihypoxic and antioxidant functions; increases efficiency and concentration of attention; reduces the toxic effect of alcohol.
Ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate improves blood circulation and metabolism of brain tissues, increases the rheological properties of blood and its microcirculation, and reduces platelet aggregation. Aligns the membrane structures of blood cells (platelets and erythrocytes). Has a hypolipidemic effect, inhibits the content of total cholesterol and low density lipoproteins.
The mechanism of action of Mexiprim is due to its membrane-protective and antioxidant action. Reduces the rate of lipid oxidation, increases the activity of superoxide oxidase, improves the lipid-protein ratio, reduces the viscosity of the membrane, and increases its fluidity. It modulates the activity of membrane-bound enzymes (calcium-independent phosphodiesterase, acetylcholinesterase adenylate cyclase,), receptor complexes (acetylcholine, gamma-aminobutyric acid, benzodiazepine), due to which their ability to bind to ligands is enhanced, the structural and functional organization of biomedipine is preserved, the structural and functional organization of biomedipine is improved. Increases the content of dopamine in the brain. It causes an increase in the compensatory activation of aerobic glycolysis and a decrease in the degree of inhibition of oxidative processes in the Krebs cycle,under conditions of hypoxia with an increase in the content of ATP and creatine phosphate, stabilization of cell membranes and activation of the energy-synthesizing functions of mitochondria.
Pharmacokinetics
The maximum concentration of the drug in blood plasma is approximately 50 to 100 ng / ml. The half-life is 4.7–5 hours; the average retention time in the body is 4.9–5.2 hours. The drug is actively metabolized, forming a glucuronoconjugated product. In about 12 hours, 0.3% of the unchanged substance and 50% of the administered dose are excreted in the urine as glucuronoconjugate. Especially actively Mexiprim and its glucuronoconjugate are released during the first 4 hours after taking the drug. The excretion of ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate and its conjugated metabolite by the kidneys has significant individual variability.
When administered orally (tablets), absorption from the gastrointestinal tract is rapid. The half-absorption period is 0.08–0.1 hours. The substance reaches its maximum concentration in blood plasma in 0.46–0.5 hours.
Indications for use
- vegetative vascular dystonia;
- mild cognitive disorders of various origins (with asthenic disorders and psychoorganic syndrome caused by chronic and acute circulatory disorders in the brain, craniocerebral trauma, atrophic and senile processes, intoxications and neuroinfections);
- anxious states with neurosis-like and neurotic states;
- intellectual disability and memory disorders in the elderly;
- exposure to stress (extreme) factors;
- withdrawal syndrome in alcoholism with a predominance of vegetative-vascular and neurosis-like disorders.
Additional indications for the use of Mexiprim in the form of a solution are:
- acute disorders of cerebral circulation (with combined treatment);
- encephalopathy;
- acute intoxication with antipsychotic drugs.
Contraindications
- renal / hepatic impairment;
- age up to 18 years;
- pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding;
- hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.
Instructions for the use of Meksiprim: method and dosage
Solution
The drug in the form of a solution is administered intravenously or intramuscularly (drip or stream). The dose of the drug is selected individually. When administered by infusion, the drug must be diluted in physiological sodium chloride solution. Begin therapy with a dose of 50-100 mg 1-3 times a day, gradually increasing the dose until a therapeutic effect is obtained. Jet Mexiprim is injected slowly over 5-7 minutes, drip - at a rate of 40-60 drops per minute. The maximum daily dose is 800 mg.
In acute disorders of cerebral circulation, ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate is prescribed as part of a complex treatment in the first 2-4 days by intravenous drip, 1 time per day, 200-300 mg, then intramuscularly 3 times a day, 100 mg. The duration of therapy is 10-14 days.
In case of discirculatory encephalopathy in the decompensation phase, Meksiprim is recommended to be administered intravenously or by infusion 2-3 times a day, 100 mg. The duration of treatment is 2 weeks. After that, the solution should be injected intramuscularly 2-3 times a day, 100 mg for the next 14 days.
For the course prevention of discirculatory encephalopathy, Mexiprim should be injected intramuscularly 2 times a day, 100 mg for 10-14 days.
For anxiety disorders and mild cognitive impairments in the elderly, Mexiprim is administered intramuscularly, the daily dose is 100-300 mg. the duration of the course is 14-30 days.
In case of alcohol withdrawal syndrome, the drug is prescribed in a dose of 100-200 mg intramuscularly 2-3 times a day or intravenously drip 1-2 times a day for 5-7 days. In case of acute intoxication with antipsychotic drugs, the drug is administered intravenously. The daily dose is 50–300 mg per day. The course of treatment is 7-14 days.
Pills
Mexiprim tablets are taken orally (inside).
The dose of the drug and the duration of therapy are determined by the sensitivity of patients to ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate. The initial dose is 250-500 mg, the average daily dose is 250-500 mg, the maximum daily dose is 800 mg. the daily dose of the drug is divided into 2-3 doses throughout the day.
For the treatment of patients with vegetative-vascular dysfunctions, anxiety disorders and cognitive impairments, the drug is taken for 2–6 weeks.
To relieve alcohol withdrawal syndrome, Mexiprim tablets are taken for 5-7 days.
Long-term treatment should be completed gradually, reducing the dose of the drug for 2-3 days.
Side effects
In rare cases, with Mexiprim therapy, it is possible to develop nausea, drowsiness, dryness of the oral mucosa, and hypersensitivity reactions.
Overdose
In case of an overdose of ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate, sleep disturbance (drowsiness / insomnia) may occur.
special instructions
Before using Mexiprim, you must consult a specialist.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms
During therapy, it is recommended to be careful when driving vehicles and performing other potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
According to the instructions, Mexiprim is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.
Pediatric use
The drug should not be taken by children under the age of 18.
Drug interactions
The combined use of Mexiprim with psychotropic drugs is allowed, in this case the effect of carbamazepine, antiparkinsonian drugs and benzodiazepine anxiolytics is enhanced.
Ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate reduces the toxic effect of ethyl alcohol.
