Release form and composition

The dosage form is an alcohol solution for external use: transparent, colorless or with a yellowish tinge, has a characteristic smell of alcohol (in glass bottles of 25, 30, 40 or 50 ml, in a cardboard box 1 bottle).

Composition of 100 ml solution:

• active substance: chloramphenicol (chloramphenicol) - 0.25; 1; 3 or 5 g;
• additional component: 70% ethyl alcohol - up to 100 ml.

Pharmacological properties

Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. Possesses high antibacterial activity against various forms of pyoinflammatory processes and causative agents of wound infection.

It disrupts the process of protein synthesis in a microbial cell: due to good lipophilicity, the ability to penetrate the cell membrane of bacteria and reversibly bind with the substance 50S of bacterial ribosomes, as a result of which the movement to the growing peptide chains of amino acids is delayed and protein synthesis is disrupted.

Shows activity against most strains of gram-positive / gram-negative microorganisms that are resistant to tetracyclines, penicillin and sulfonamides.

Promotes cleansing and healing of trophic ulcers, burn wounds, and acceleration of epithelialization.

Indications for use

According to the instructions, Levomycetin alcohol solution is prescribed for the treatment of bacterial skin infections caused by sensitive microorganisms, including infected burns (superficial / delimited deep), boils, trophic ulcers, bedsores.

Contraindications

Absolute:

• skin diseases, including psoriasis, eczema, fungal infections;
• intermittent porphyria in acute course;
• oppression of bone marrow hematopoiesis;
• hepatic / renal failure;
• deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase;
• neonatal period (up to 4 weeks);
• individual intolerance to any component of the drug.
